The Weather Outside is Getting Frightful

#1 Post by Kazoo65 » Tue Dec 08, 2009 8:18 pm

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. We're under a bunch of weather warnings and advisories for snow, sleet, and freezing rain (the latter 2 we get tonight-ugh). Tomorrow the rain/sleet turns back into snow and by late afternoon the lake effect machine turns on and by Thursday we're supposed to get blizzard-like conditions. They are already telling people to stay home that day because traveling will be impossible.

Went to the grocery store this morning to stock up-a lot of other people were doing the same thing. The word "snowstorm" causes instant panic, even though we get lots of them here in Michigan.

Anyone else in the path of this thing?

They say we'll get 2 to 4 inches of snow tonight and early tomorrow morning, before it turns to rain. The morning commute will probably be messy.

I saw y'all's predicament while getting the latest update on our Tornado Warning on The Weather Channel. Maybe the drifts won't get too deep. I hope so for the people in your area. BTW- our Warning ends in about 20 minutes but we are under a Tornado Watch until 2 AM.

It's currently sleeting in chicago, the drive to night class was ok, but the drive home was miserable. Nobody seems to know how to drive the first day it starts seriously snowing.

Have 10+ inches of snow here at my house. Wind is supposed to start gusting up to 40 mph from midnight to noon.

Luckily, my son did a report on blizzards a few weeks back, so we are prepared. :)

We're having a line of thunderstorms move though. 60 MPH winds and heavy rain. :(

Yep, about six inches in your area. (We've got four.)

Looks like it's turned to rain, south of Poughkeepsie.

Here in Rochester, today is bringing back memories of the famous Ice Storm of 91 (no power for 18 days) with the lashing winds, ice-covered windows and grey, ominous skies.

I'm pet-sitting (my chance to live in BE-U-TI-FUL houses) and one of the third-floor windows blew open and was creating quite the racket (even the cats were uneasy). The satellite dish went out so no TV but I am happy because the home owners have ...

Me too! And in a review on amazon, someone tells the episode where Barnabas was introduced. Apparently, before that, the show was so-so, but once he joined, the show really took off. And since there are 13 cases of DVDs here and it was a daily show, there must have been thousands of episodes...

1,225 different episodes of the original Dark Shadows although the numbering of episodes goes to 1,245. There were 20 pre-emptions so those episode numbers were just skipped. There are no episodes numbered 109 and 110 for example.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Our weather has cleared up. It's supposed to get up to 74° here. It's -7° in Denver right now.

Eastern part of the state got some snow, we just have 15 below. Good news is that we will climb all the way up to -5 for the high.

My former neighbor complained on Facebook this morning that this can't be Texas, it's too cold. The low at her house was 26. I may "borrow" Kusch's post to tell her about the real world.
Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

That'll be $10, please.

It was pouring rain when we drove into Philly early this morning. And I do mean early, 5am.

After the line of thunderstorms passed though here this morning, the temperature rose to 75°. It will be in the 50s for the next five days.

After snow, sleet and rain all day today, we are now getting lightning and thunder to go with more rain. The dogs are panicking. Oh boy.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

We're still under a blizzard warning-it got extended until 6am tomorrow. We've got 7 inches (at least) where I live, and the weatherman says we're going to have snow showers tomorrow giving us another couple of inches. Also, we might get another blast of snow next week. Lots of schools, librairies, churches, and even the Civic Theather are closed.

I have a summons for jury duty next Wednesday. I looked at the website for the court system and it didn't say anything about inclement weather, but it did have an e-mail address. I e-mailed the jury duty people to find out what happens if there's a snowstorm and the courthouse is closed.
