No Heat

#1 Post by christie1111 » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:17 pm

Nothing like having the heat go off on a day like today.

Thankfully the fire is blazing and the gas guy is now on the way.

I hope the problem can be fixed quickly. No heat or no power populate my nightmares about winter storms.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Here is another view

Arlington, WY – avg annual wind speed of 31mph, gusts above 110mph, seems like a great place for a wind turbine ….right?

Combine cold temperatures that make steel brittle along with gusty winds, and you have a Titanic recipe for disaster.

It's -16°F in Parker (SE of Denver) right now!

It is 63° here right now; it actually warmed-up while I was playing trivia last night.

It's supposed to be only 48° tomorrow and just 41° Friday though. :(

My triumph for the morning is having thawed out my frozen pipes with a hairdryer.

Lizbit thought it was very strange that I was halfway into the cabinet space beneath the kitchen sink. She kept sneaking up on my feet.

What does a picture of a windmill have to do with Christie's heat being out?

Oh yeah I forgot, based on past history you should never never go near a tall windmill in bad weather. sorry for mentioning it.

Glad you got it fixed. Don't you have the heat on? Maybe that really nice landlord of yours needs to insulate the wall abit. Or keep the door to that cabinet open a bit.

The heat is on, the cabinet door was open all night, and a substantial drip was left dripping while I slept. More insulation might be nice, but I doubt there's a structure in the entire state that was built to deal with single-digit temperatures that go on for days. I exaggerate only slightly. Our high for today, with full sunshine, is projected to be around 12. We should make it back into the 30s on Saturday.

According to a tv meteorologist, we've had only three storms this wicked in the history of the state. One, I think, was before I was born. The second was the Christmas blizzard of 2009.

I didn't get as much snow as many people, and I can see the sun. I'm not complaining. :)

We have had about an inch of ice but the power is on so no complaining now that the furnace was repaired.

Work is officially closed.

I made a pot of Chicken Calabrese for dinner and am planning to make a loaf of bread this afternoon.

Daughter1111 has had 7 days of school and 5 snow days so far at the main campus of UConn this semester. Crazy!
