My New Hobby

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Sun Feb 19, 2012 9:03 pm

I am the newest volunteer at the SPCA

I work in the small animal area, with the rabbits, chinchillas, birds, rats, and....HAMSTERS!!!

We have not replace any of our little friends, since Mittens and her children headed over the Rainbow Bridge, about 3 years ago.

There are currently 60 rabbits...yes 60.

Aside from the cleaning and feeding, one of our jobs is to keep them socialized with people, so they are adoptable.

We get right down into the pen, with little treats, like raisins, apple chunks etc and interact, pet and groom them.

I was sitting there yesterday, with some romaine lettuce, feeding and petting a sweet little black bunny, when suddenly this white and brown spotted rex rabbit started poking at my butt, then crawled up on my lap and pushed herself under my hand.

Damn, I melted!!!

Oh Saucy!

I am sure that as rewarding the job is, you want to bring each one of them home.

And sometimes substitute one of them for Big J.

Congrats, Saucy on doing this. As someone who had dwarf rabbits - Foo Foo and Harvey for 13 years - they are great pets. All you have to do is put a square baking pan with litter in their cage and they will use it. I still miss them.

You just have to watch your electric cords - they love to chew them.

We now have Eddie, the most wonderful cat, rescued from the Humane Society. He has brought such joy to our lives during some very dark days. A pet can be a true life saver.

Awwwww!!!!!!!

With 2 terriers and a cat I don't think there's anyway in hell I could get bunny. Don't need any Wild Kingdom reenactments in my living room, thankyouverymuch.

Reenact this scene with Sprots and ES and I'm sure there'd be the same reaction.

No?

I was VERY disappointed at Saucinator not making last year's avatar countdown, and I issued a sternly-worded reprimand to LB, a very sternly-worded reprimand indeed.

This Saucy avatar will win.
