Yes, I got a video interview, but other BBs have gotten those and still received Sad Cards, so it's never been a guarantee. What is still a guarantee (at least with the limited data we have) is that anybody who doesn't get a video interview is sure to get a Sad Card.earendel wrote:But to be clear, you did get a video interview? No, that doesn't make sense. If the say-so of a single, random AP after a quick interview was enough for a Happy Card, why would they have to bother with a video interview at all? And let me make this clear: the prospects require acting. The AP (Jeff?) who videotaped me read me a few sample questions and stressed that I should verbalize any thought processes I have. This is a key test in seeing how a contestant might actually perform in front of the camera. Unfortunately, the APs can't be bothered with thinking up some new questions to ask, so they ask some that have already been used on the show.
Unfortunately, I am not an actor. When asked one of those oddball questions that used to be first tier gimmes with an "obvious" answer (except now, with the question randomization, it's not always so obvious to the contestants), I remembered the question and answered much too quickly, without pretending, as an actor might, that I'd never heard of it before and that I was working through it for the first time.
And, I'll confess, he asked a couple pop culture questions that I didn't remember the answer to and had no clue on; that didn't help me, either.
When you go to an audition, things can happen quickly. You better be prepared to act.

Well, thanks for the rundown on what went on in the video interview. This is the 1st I've read. If you've never read one either, I can see why you think you weren't prepared sufficiently for it, but, even had you gone in prepared to act, that doesn't mean you'll pull it off. Darn.

When I was on I asked if they preferred that I do that and was told to do whatever felt confortable, that they couldn't tell me how to act.

I suppose the elimination of the dreaded clock makes a difference. (I bet many BBs have suppressed their memories of those horrible clock years.) When there was a clock, all a contestant could do was try to answer in time and not screw up. They could show their personalities during the banter between questions.
