Lyrically Spaking 7/23/12

#1 Post by kroxquo » Mon Jul 23, 2012 7:49 am

I have to admit, I'm scratching the bottom of the barrel for these games, and again I had to dig up some What the hell? songs for this game that we're calling:

CUE MAJOR GENERAL TOM LEHRER

The titles of all these songs have something in common. Identify the song and artist for two points each, what each song has in common for another two points, and give me another song with artist that fits the theme. Hint - no Earth Wind and Fire here.

1. Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?

2. How, in every visible way, you shine
As if the stars in your wake align
Almost impossible to malign

3. I needed you, I knew I was in danger
Of losing what I used to think was mine
You let me love you till I was a failure,
You let me love you till I was a failure

4, I'm closing all the curtains
So don't you even bother
And they'm calling out the murder
But I'm underneath the covers

5. I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, that's okay

6. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean

7. Joan was quizzical; studied pataphysical
Science in the home.
Late nights all alone with a test tube.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.

8. Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

9. Time on my side
I got it all
I've heard that pride
Always comes before a fall

10. Wanting you the way I do
I only want to be with you
And I would go to the ends of the earth
Cause, darling, to me that's you're worth

11. Well I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time
But I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there is nothing I can do, yeah

12. Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my Daddy and his Daddy before
You hardly ever saw grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year

What do all these songs have in common?

What is another song with artist that fits the theme?

Spoiler
1. Has he lost his mind?
Can he see or is he blind?
Can he walk at all
Or if he moves will he fall?
Iron Man - Black Sabbath (Or Ozzy Osbourne Fanny's Ozzy Osbourne rule she ripped off from Phil *******...)

2. How, in every visible way, you shine
As if the stars in your wake align
Almost impossible to malign
My Squirrel From the Platinum Club - The Auburn Gents

3. I needed you, I knew I was in danger
Of losing what I used to think was mine
You let me love you till I was a failure,
You let me love you till I was a failure
I'm Such a Boron - Exploded Nose

4, I'm closing all the curtains
So don't you even bother
And they'm calling out the murder
But I'm underneath the covers
Cesium! - The Coppers (My 10th grade chemistry teacher had a comic hanging on the classroom wall that has to be one of the few comic references ever to Element #55. It showed a chemist standing outside his laboratory door pointing at a running thief who had the "55 Cs" square on the periodic table under his arms, and I can't remember exactly what the scientist was shouting, but it was a pun to the effect of "He stole my element! Cesium!" It still cracks me up to think about it 22 years later, but I can't for the life of me remember which comic strip it came from. It was a single panel, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't The Far Side. Couldn't find it on Google images... dammit! Oh well, back to the game....)

5. I'm so happy 'cause today
I found my friends
They're in my head
I'm so ugly, that's okay
Huffing Radon - The Cancer Kids

6. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean
Heart of Gold - Neil Young

7. Joan was quizzical; studied pataphysical
Science in the home.
Late nights all alone with a test tube.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Maxwell's Silver Hammer - Beatles (YAY!!! I'd been listening to Beatles albums on YouTube while coloring my blog comics late at night, and it's finally paid off! Now bring on the infamous Rocky Raccoon!)

8. Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves
Tin Man - America

9. Time on my side
I got it all
I've heard that pride
Always comes before a fall
Love Is Like Oxygen - Sweet

10. Wanting you the way I do
I only want to be with you
And I would go to the ends of the earth
Cause, darling, to me that's you're worth
Too Bad My Neon Won't Make It That Far - Mike & the Mechanics

11. Well I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind
I left my body lying somewhere in the sands of time
But I watched the world float to the dark side of the moon
I feel there is nothing I can do, yeah
Kryptonite - Three Doors Down (The theoretical element #118, as named by wintergreen during one of my August 2000 QoD's...)

12. Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my Daddy and his Daddy before
You hardly ever saw grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year
Drink Your Astatine - The Forgotten Halogen

Blanket SWAG of Lithium - Nirvana for the joke answers....

What do all these songs have in common?

They all contain elements seated at the periodic table

What is another song with artist that fits the theme?

Are you serious?

Instead, I created this avatar of my squirrel pup named Sulphur. It is my 400th ES avatar since I uploaded my first one 4 years and 5 days ago. You need not scritch him (Sprots will take care of that), but you should do what he says. He's cute...

I'm so ugly, that's okay

Lithium - Nirvana

6. I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood

Heart of Gold - Neil Diamond

7. Joan was quizzical; studied pataphysical
Science in the home.
Late nights all alone with a test tube.
Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Maxwell's Silver Hammer - Beatles

Even though it's pretty much a novelty song, this is one of my fave Beatles' tunes. I love the syncopation and the back beat phrasing.....

8. Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

Tin Man - America

America two games in a row? What did we do to deserve such tortures???

9. Time on my side
I got it all
I've heard that pride
Always comes before a fall

Love is Like Oxygen - Sweet

Love is not flopping out some lame ass song in a desperate grab for one last hit......

Kyrptonite - 3 Doors Down

When you used Sunshine Superman in the matching game, I quick skimmed the rest of the song to see if I could find this one. That match would be so cool, although I'm not sure what the general theme would be to find 11 others like it.....

12. Well my name's John Lee Pettimore
Same as my Daddy and his Daddy before
You hardly ever saw grandaddy down here
He only came to town about twice a year

Copperhead Road - Steve Earle

What do all these songs have in common?

They all have some form of elements in the title

What is another song with artist that fits the theme?

Titanium - David Guetta f/Sia

This one was kind of too easy since it's a current hit, so I was going to use Mercury Blues. But then I thought there will probably be tons of mercury kroxes and I'm pretty sure that I'll have the only titanium krox so I went ahead with it...
It's the Final Countdown.....

Sulphur is very cute, but it's too much like begging. It will not win. I do not scritch squirrel pups any more than I do mangy adult rodents. Ick.
