Re: Anything Non-Olympics and Non-Political Going On?
Over my early June vacation, I got fired up about self-publishing a book I wrote seven or eight years ago. One person has been through it in a quicky edit, my friend is working on illustrations, and next up is a real editor and then ... the Kindle and paperback books and all that!
Also, we have a new department chair, who has gotten us part-timers raises for the first time in years, with another one coming in the spring. She asked me to do two courses each semester, and the schedule sucks this fall but it is nice to be wanted.
NEXT ITEM IS NOT POLITICAL, BUT IS RELATED TO POLITICS
Work is about to be horrific, what with the Democrats and their hangers-on coming to town. Our building is so close to the stadium where a speech by a political person will be made that we will have to spend the night because of the Secret Service cordon. Srsly. I may ask to work from home that night.
But it is awesome to have a job, and one that I like and am sufficiently good at. So one night of inconvenience can be stood. We will watch movies and make popcorn.

I got to hold new grandbaby (#3) for the first time this weekend. Drove nine hours each way to spend about 14 hours with the kids. Yup, well worth it. My kids make beautiful babies.

Oh it took me a while to get the hint, so here is your monthly probate update.
Who's still interested?
My lawyer filed another motion to request all the bank records of the estate. He so wisely thought to have all those involved sign a statement if they opposed us getting the records sign the form, otherwise it would mean they didn't oppose. The probate lawyer calls 3 days before the hearing to say, nope don't oppose. So now after 4 years of saying no, he says yes. 2 days before the hearing the court calls us to do it online by phone and gets our phone numbers and gives us our time. 1 day before the hearing at 430 PM, the judge's clerk calls to tell my lawyer the judge cancelled the hearing and will issue a motion.
My lawyer tells the clerk, no we want to speak on the record. Nope. Judge says no and means no. So of course the judge rules against us getting the bank records saying in her order... even if we find out someone took money (probate lawyer), we gave up our right to any "claims" when we signed the arbitration. However, one of the agreed terms of arbitration was we are to be provided 'written evidence of all deposits intended for the deceased." To us that meant bank records. So now we appeal. Oh and the judge failed to send her order to my lawyer so he didn't get it until we called to find out how the appeal was going 1.5 weeks later and he hadn't started. We only had 3 weeks to do the appeal and he had a trial for one of those weeks.

My "Aunt" Paula (actually, she's my cousin, but the age difference always required the aunt honorific, according to my mom) says that once men reach a certain age, when they go courting they're looking for a nurse or a purse. I also know a couple men who believe the same thing about women and won't date or even hang out in mixed groups.DevilKitty100 wrote:Well, I felt I was in danger of losing my life today.........OK, technically only in danger of being bored to death, but OhEmFreakingGee! After almost two years of my on-line fishing expedition, I went to meet a local guy today........my first actual face-to-face meeting and oh, brother! Two and one-half hours of my life pissed up a rope......almost literally. We met at Cracker Barrel at 3:00 p.m. and when they seated us and put the menus in front of us, he says, "We don't want to eat, do we?" No, fumduck......that's why we met at a restaurant! So I drank copious amounts of tea while he droned on about...........hell, I don't even remember.
C'mon, Gramps! I know you're out there........just waiting for your sweet, sensual, mild-mannered DK.
I think it's easier to live in a small town. Even if you don't know by reputation the person you just met, a couple phone calls and you have all the info you need. The second time we met, SteelersFan asked one of his tablemates about me, a person I'd known since about the time I got my driver's license, and he called me up the next week.
Even though it's not a small town, I still think you'll find someone to match up with. Heck, look at Wintergreen . . . oops, I mean, Fitzwilliam Darcy. . .

LOLOLOLOL..........I just now saw this! I think I'm going to have change my screen name on the old geezer site so I can use some of these artistic masterpieces. The acorn is not falling far from the tree.
For example, here's my opening line in my profile: "If you're an old geezer looking for Barbie read no farther, she ain't here;"
And the closer: " And for those that take pride in being the kind of guy that says "I just tell it like it is so if you don't want to know, don't ask," those of us with an IQ of the average eggplant know that's just code for "I'll say any jackass thing that crosses my mind." Being inarticulate and rude is NOT a virtue.
And if you've tagged yourself "legally separated," "very good looking," "honest to a fault," " loyal to a fault" yada, yada, yada..........chances are, you're probably not. And if you're all touchy, feely, needy, overly sensitive, and still at our age, experiencing angst with your emotions, please stay with your mama because you won't find one here.
Lastly, no picture/profile, NO response! "
And in my defense, there are a few "softer touches" couched in between. The nurse/purse thing must be pretty common.......a lot of guys make the effort to qualify that's not what THEY are looking for.
And I found this version greatly cut down on the phishers.

And I'd love to try the small town thingie, Sprots...................but I live in the DFW metroplex. My new house is farther out in one of the smaller communities, though and now that I'm pretty settled in to the house, I have been seriously considering more involved in the small town aspects. And I know I can count on impeccable references.....................
