Husband1111s BDay and sound systems

#1 Post by christie1111 » Fri Apr 12, 2013 10:58 am

I know I can't afford alot right now as we are going on a trip to Hawai'i for a wedding at the end of May, but I was thinking about how to augment his musical listening with a well chosen birthday present.

He has recently gotten involved in totally loading up his iPod. We have a wireless docking station in the living room and was seeing adds for items that are wireless speakers for audio and TVs.

The brand name Sonos keeps coming up but searching Best Buy they seem too pricey since I assume you need 2 unless that is an outmoded idea (what do I know). And I am pretty sure I can not afford anything with the name Bose on it.

Think about the $200-250 range. If I spent more he would not be happy.

Any thoughts anyone?

And thanks in advance.

Are you looking for something to plug the iPod into or something to connect to your TV?

Bose is not as expensive as you think: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/sho ... /index.jsp

Bob, you still don't read what people post before you Google search stuff that could easily be done and already has been.
We have a wireless docking station in the living room and was seeing ads for items that are wireless speakers for audio and TVs.
I always search stuff before I post anything question wise. I don't want to waste people's time here.

If anyone (BobJ, please don't spend another second on this subject) has an opinion on the value/quality of wireless speakers or surround sound systems please let me know.

The other company I heard about was Pioneer when asking around at work. I remember them from back in the day where I don't think they were considered great or maybe I am misremembering.

Fuck you. If you ask for help you should not object if someone ask a question to clarify your request. You still haven't clarified what you're looking for. I saw that you have a wireless docking station in the living room. What's it plugged into? Are you looking for speakers for it or your TV? I didn't Google anything because I don't know what you're looking for. Go ahead and get a Pioneer system; they're crap but that's what you deserve.

It seems like some info might be at cross purposes. Based on history sometimes folks make assumptions and don't look at the actual request. Fuck you seemed a bit untoward. Maybe "perhaps I dint understand"?

I didn't understand and still don't. I made no assumptions, that's why I asked a question. The "fuck you" was in reaction to insulting rudeness.

Wish I could help. You'd think I'd be more of an audiophile, but I've been using the same 3-foot high Sony speakers since 1986.
I have cables I can use to play my iPod through my receiver, and I charge it in a cheap-ass portable iPod player/docking thingy.

Yes, that's what it says on the box it came in: "Cheap-ass Portable iPod Player/Docking Thingy."

OK, I made that last part up. But it actually doesn't sound all that bad for what it is, to be honest.

I guess I am just missing the 'insulting rudeness' part that warrented such a response.

Christie, I really hate to go all mini on you here.... but neither you, me, nor a team of 100 jackasses is going to stop Bob from replying to questions like this posted on the Bored. It's what he does, and has done since he first came to this Bored. He's not going to stop. I don't think he can stop... it's a compusion to have to look like an expert on everything. If you really don't want to see his replies, then you need to foe him and his "expert opinions" will never bother you again....

I'm pretty sure there are times I have told people to fuck off on this Bored, and if not, there certainly are a few here I would like to tell that to. I can't be a hypocrite here and call out Bob... because if I had a nasty history with someone on this Bored, and they finally pushed me to a breaking point, I'd likely respond the same way....

I'm not defending Bob or his behavior. You know very well I have about the same opinion of him as you do. But really, it's time for you to back off and take some action on your part to ensure he never bothers you again....

Christie is free to do whatever she wants but I want you to understand that all I did was ask her a question to clarify her request and gave her a link to show that Bose units aren't as expensive as she thinks. I didn't Google anything because I didn't know what she was actually looking for. No one else has answered her question, probably because they don't know what she wants either. I have a very nice Sony home video theater system that is out of her price range so I didn't recommend it; I didn't know if that's what she wanted either.

I didn't see anything wrong with BJ's orignal response. Christie's original question was vaque and conflicting.

Her original response to him was polite but snobbish, at best. Not an appropriate response to a genuine response to a request for help.

Bob's response back was out of line but not out of character.
