Biracial Cheerios Ad Generates Hate Comments

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Mon Jun 03, 2013 12:28 pm

A Cheerios commercial depicting a biracial family generated so many negative comments on Youtube that General Mills disabled comments on its Youtube site.

The commercial is typical Cheerios blandness except for the fact that the family depicted has a white mother, a black father and a biracial child. Many of the negative comments were flat out racist, although positive feedback outnumbered negative feedback by a considrable margin. Although comments for this video were disabled, many people have taken to making similar comments on other Cheerios videos on Youtube.

It's sad that a run-of-the-mill commercial for a breakfast cereal can generate such hate simply because the family shown offends some people. Just think what would have happened if the commercial featured a gay couple and their child.

Cherrios would go the way of JCP. But General Mills is smarter than that.

Even smarter than you think. General Mills also makes Lucky Charms. They were introduced in the 1960s, a landmark decade for proud rainbow colored marshmallow munchers.

I was offended by it.

They should have used my grandson for their commercial; he's way cuter.
