I don't recall all the specifics of the burial, but George Pullman had something very similar (or exactly like this). Is there a keyword that belongs to Liv Ullman?
Her surname has two Ns, not one. I believe the name that Frank wants here is:

24. H(AL) LINDSEY + 4. GEORGE P(ULLMAN) = AL ULLMAN, longtime congresscritter from OREGON.

Is anybody working on this game a member of Learned League? This was one of their clues today:
Who was born in Newgate, and during a life of continu'd Variety for Threescore Years, besides her Childhood, was Twelve Years a Whore, five times a Wife (whereof once to her brother) Twelve Years a Thief, Eight Years a Transported Felon in Virginia, at last grew Rich, liv'd Honest and died a Penitent—The preceding is the final 4/5 of the title of what classic novel?
That's a big enough coincidence, but there's an even more amazing coincidence in today's questions.

You mean, that not only was Moll Flanders one of the answers, but that Ann Landers was another? Two from the same Tangredi pair, on the same day? While the game is still active?

Hey, if I can believe Oswald acted alone, I can believe anything. :)

And thank you, by the way. I don't believe I'd have gotten that question right otherwise.

I finally caved and looked up the answer to #30, which was bugging me. The gentleman's name is DAVID GROSS, which gives us a Ross....

Iman almost has to be there for MAN RAY, and Dada. But I can't find someone named Gray, or Wray, or Bray, or anything else. At least not yet.

I was thinking the same thing for IMAN and Man Ray.

So, I started looking at clues that I might look up ( :( ) to get here.

I picked this one.

49. Known as the “Bentham of Hallamshire,” this British philosopher is best known for his 1821 “Essays on the Formation and Publication of Opinions.” (Read it lately? It's a real page-turner.)

Turns out, it's SAMUEL BAILEY.

Which, with Calvin Coolidge gives us Alvin Ailey (Dance)

but no Man ray yet.

It looks like I messed up. I didn't realize there was a Jane Goodall/Richard Leakey connection. I'm thinking of someone else.

Game #173: Game of Terror

Identify each of the 60 people below. Match them into 30 pairs according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Then match each pair with a word from the Associated Words list.

What, you mean there's no Ane or Oodall in this puzzle? I was really looking forward to finding that one! :)

So probably Dian Fossey, then? To give us an Ian?

I've been wondering about Jan Hus, since you wind up with either An or Us. An Wang was an early pioneer in the personal computing field -- the company I worked for before I started teaching sold Wang minicomputers, which led to no end of hilarity among the arrested development white boys who worked in that field in the 1980s. So hopefully there's a _wang buried in the unanswered clues somewhere.

This is the one. I can't remember his exact name. DAVID HENRY HWANG? Something like that.

I came across this in Wikipedia:
The Trimates, sometimes called Leakey's Angels, is a name given to three women — Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birutė Galdikas — chosen by anthropologist Louis Leakey to study hominids in their natural environments. They studied chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans respectively.
So there could be an Irute or Aldikas too.

Time to pick off some of the unanswered clues.

15. Almost seven decades after the Supreme Court squashed his attempt to overturn Executive Order 9066, the State of California declared an annual “Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution” in his honor.
CESAR CHAVEZ?

As mentioned earlier, this referred to Japanese-American internment camps. The man's name was FRED KOREMATSU, which will give us a first name of Red.

17. The Impressionist movement began to take shape with the meeting of Claude Monet, Pierre-August Renoir, Frederic Bazille, and this Anglo-French painter whose most notable work was a series of landscapes of the River Thames.

Being a big fan of the British quiz show University Challenge, I know that questions on Impressionist painters come up several times per season. All of the Anglo landscape painters I could think of--J.M.W. Turner, John Constable, Joshua Reynolds--had nothing to do with France. Plus, their names didn't produce anything useful for this Tangredi. So I had to do some digging here. And yes, this is a name that has been a correct answer many times on the aforementioned British game show--ALFRED SISLEY, which gives us a surname of Isley.

43. This Elizabethan was a poet, a dramatist, and a member of Parliament, but is best remembered as the biographer of Sir Philip Sidney.

I don't know who this guy is, either, but his name is FULKE GREVILLE. There aren't many people surnamed Reville, but the most famous one is:

10. S(ALMA) HAYEK + 43. FULKE G(REVILLE) = ALMA REVILLE, wife of ALFRED Hitchcock
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

Linda Lavin (Alice)?
OK - looking stuff up.

51. He won a Pulitzer Prize for his classic 1944 novel Journey in the Dark. (Yeah, I don’t remember it, either.)

MARTIN FLAVIN.

SO....

28. (G) LINDA + 51. (F) LAVIN = Linda Lavin (Alice)

7. DJMQ: Knighted in 1981, this British choreographer first danced with Alicia Markova at the Royal Ballet in the 1930s and went on to found a company with her.

ANTON DOLIN

So...

35. (E) LENA + 7. (D) OLIN = Lena Olin (Enemies)

I should have figured this one out earlier.....

37. He gained prominence as the first professor of psychology in the United States and the publisher of Science magazine, but his dismissal from Columbia – prompted by his public opposition to the World War II draft – led many universities to adopt the tenure system.

JAMES MCKEEN CATTELL

60. (B) ABE + 37. (C) ATTELL = Abe Attell (Featherweight).

Since Abe Attell was also a pal of Arnold Rothstein, I kept looking for a Black Sox connection, forgetting he was a featherweight champ long before that.

47. In the space of eleven years, he served as presidents of Luxembourg, the UN General Assembly, and the European Commission.

This one is GASTON THORN, which gives us:

21. T(ROY) DONAHUE + 47. GASTON T(HORN) = ROY HORN, who almost got eaten by a TIGER

50. He was a victorious U.S. general during the Mexican War, but as a Confederate general he suffered a major defeat at the Battle of Westport; after the war, he took his remaining troops to Mexico rather than surrender.

This one is STERLING PRICE, and he gives us:

23. F(ANNE) FOXE + 50. STERLING P(RICE) = ANNE RICE, of the VAMPIRE novels

53. Describing the work of this German contemporary – who has variously been associated with expressionism, surrealism, cubism, futurism, and abstract art – Marchel Duchamp observed that “most of his compositions show at the first glance a plain, naive expression, found in children's drawings.”

I probably should have figured out this one earlier. This was PAUL KLEE. A lot of people surnamed Lee to look for.

Frank hasn’t seen the need to give us any help, such as telling us if any names are incorrect, but it’s safe to assume that names used in matches are right.
