Oof! My wife, who is a libertarian, would be ashamed at my not getting this:

49. Although a non-gambler himself, this former Representative was probably the leading Congressional proponent of legalizing online gambling while he was in office; in fact, a number of the country’s most prominent poker players held fundraisers for him.

has to be RON PAUL to complete

Illinois: 49 + 85 = Paul Simon

62. Knowing this politician’s most infamous quote won me $32,000 on a certain game show.

Lightbulb moment! "Peace for our time". The words that history's original Donald Drumpf, NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN, used when he turned the world over to the Nazis. Since I doubt that there is anybody famous with the first Chamberlain, I'll have to go with the Neville. I associate the entire Neville music family with Louisiana, especially Aaron (#15).
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)

37. Her first marriage at age 16 to a well-known painter three decades her senior lasted less than a year but led to her meeting and later posing for a number of her husband’s artist friends, including photographer Julia Cameron, who took a famous photograph of her on her honeymoon at the home of Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

I think this is the actress ELLEN TERRY.

You haven't used any of the wrong answers in a match. Some of the matches won't allow you to finish the puzzle, but I think you'll figure that out when you try to work some of the more obscure names.

In one case, you have a match that's wrong because you're not following the rule of the Tangredi properly to construct the person's name.

Yup, that's the Preston Tucker match. I realized that after I posted.

I'm thinking this has to be KING DONOVAN to complete our Stephen King match.

Donovan, husband of Imogene Coca, had a major role in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

I think Blind Lemon Jefferson is going to yield Jefferson Davis for Mississippi, if we can find someone whose first name is Davis.

65. On St. Patrick’s Day, 1955, hometown fans of this hockey player started a major riot in a shopping district near the arena, resulting in three dozen injuries and over 60 arrests, following the announcement of his suspension for the remainder of the season as a result of a fight in an earlier game.

Question for sports fans: can this be MAURICE RICHARD? That's such a useful last name for this puzzle.

59. This suffragette, a cousin of Emma Lazarus, helped found the National Consumers League, an organization dedicated to improving wages and conditions for retail working women at the turn of the century, and was President of the New York chapter for 20 years; during this same time period, her younger sister was one of the leading anti-suffragettes of the era.

MAUD NATHAN

51. “And Sudden Death,” an article he published in his magazine in 1935, was one of the first to describe the aftermath of auto accidents in (for the time) rather graphic fashion and is credited with first raising public consciousness about auto safety issues.

This was published in Reader's Digest. So DeWITT WALLACE

37. ELLEN TERRY + 3. BAKER MAYFIELD = Terry Baker, the Heisman winner from OREGON State???

Was just looking this up.

It is, indeed, the Richard Riot.

Not sure about Lancaster but Ford, Newman, Scheider and Scott were all in movies written by ELMORE LEONARD
