Mama's Caribbean Odyssey Day 9 - (finally)

#1 Post by a1mamacat » Mon May 19, 2008 9:56 pm

(Thanks KT for the Prod. I needed to finish this. It has been very therapeutic.)

March 18, 2008 Day 9 – Gustavia, St. Barts, FWI

Scattered Clounds, High 78 F, 26 C, Low 75 F, 24 C.

This was a much anticipated stop. This is the home of the rich and famous and those who own really really really big boats!!

I got to the Terrace Café around 7:30 and grabbed a croissant, dish of yogurt, and a plate of fruit. A charming stewart was at my side right away with a fresh cup of coffee. The sun was just peeking up over the island, as we slowly sailed into port. We anchored at around 8:00 am, Mom and Dad finally got up and joined me on the Terrace.

Around 10:30, after a dip in the pool and a soak in the hot tub, we headed to the gangway and boarded a tender to head to shore. Jawdropping scenery and the watercraft, oh the watercraft. There were some yachts, that were almost as big as our cruise ship, I swear to heaven.

The shore shopping was NOT your typical tourist fair. Prada, Vuitton, Guchi, etc were the stores of note in this port. We enjoyed window shopping, and I even dared to actually walk into the Vuitton store and laid a finger on a bag. Oh, the thrill. My legs were weak.

We wandered through town some more, and I spied an Internet café. Headed in to send cheap emails and post a note here. Emails on board ship cost 3.00 each, and internet was .90 per minute.

Mom’s legs were getting tired, so we sat at a lovely outdoor café and had a cool drink. Corona is just sooooo much better in the hot sun LOL. We then headed of to the docks, and walked around the giant yachts. I looked for Bradjolie, but they were busy elsewhere. It was now about 2 pm and we were ready for lunch. Headed back to the ship and enjoyed hot burgers and salads on the pool deck.

Today’s drink was a Madras – Vodka, OJ, and Cranberry Juice. At 4:00 I headed off to the Spa and Salon for a shampoo and set, as I was modelling jewellery at 5:30. Did I forget to mention that on Tuesday 11th, Mom and I attended a seminar on Amber, and I was asked to be a model in the show? Well tonight was the night. I headed to the boutique, and was outfitted in about $1,500.00 worth of Amber and Sterling jewellery. We then headed up to the Horizon’s lounge, and spent the next hour presenting and showing our Amber pieces to a huge crown. I had some people wanting to buy my pieces right then and there.

Jim the host was a hoot, and had treated all us models to the salon, and dinner on the Saturday night previous. After the show, we went and had dinner, a beautiful roast of beef with all the trimmings, baked potato, again with all the trimmings, and of course, the inevitable bottle of wine. We were in the main dining room, and there were about 10 of us, Mom Dad and I, Janet and Al, Mary and Keith, (Mary was a retired banker like my Dad, and although they never actually worked together, they had many business friends in commom) and two other couples from Vancouver that we had met up with earlier (One of the ladies had been the one to purchase the amber I was wearing). We had such a large group, that we were placed in the center of the room, at the captain’s table, that seats 14. What a high that was. After dinner we headed to the deck for a drink and a relaxing layout under the stars.

Two Irish coffees later, it was nighty night time.

(edited because the stores of not were also stores of note, but I wanted to be accurate)
