How do you shrink photos down to size?

I've got some candidates for my avatar, but they're all in the multi-MB range. Is there some way to shrink them down to the 100KB max?
gs, the ignorant (when it comes to digital photos, anyway)

Go to the thread called "Checking avatar." In that thread, Uly posted a link to a site that will make any photo smaller (and give you some choice in how you want it cropped.) It provided the solution for me and others.

Thanks, sc. Very useful site, found, logically enough, by our resident photographer.
