As obvious as that move seemed from where I was sitting, I still have to give Patrick kudos for actually doing so while in the Hot Seat (particularly with the new clock).

Agreed! He took a few extra seconds to decide what lifeline to use after the ATA result, but it was a good, strategic choice. As for the ATA, the way I see it, about 75% of the audience was clueless, most of whom evenly split their WAGs but about 25% falling for the distractor that "coloring must mean architectural painting", with only 25% really knowing the right answer.

That's what I thought, but it still seems odd that they're changing the topics. (There was one other example of that during the first week of the season, IIRC.) I would expect the question writers to decide on the topic labels in advance, and that should be that!

It seems rather clear for Patrick to play again even with a small risk of ending up with just $1K. With all 4 lifelines left, he should be very, very likely to at least get the $25K clue right and then at least have a free shot (and probably much better) at the $50K and higher.

Very interesting. If they're doing post-production changes to fix errors in the graphics, I wonder why they didn't change the graphic that said a pony keg is a vegetable.

I just checked my recording and coloratura was spelled correctly on the screen. I don't know how it was spelled for the contestant.

Another oddity was evident in the WWTBAM promotional media material at the start of the season. They distributed a still photo of the blond woman on today's show (9/30/08), appearing to answer a question on the screen that was actually asked of a different contestant on one of last week's shows. It was the "Eat, drink, and be merry" question, as seen in the photo rotation at the top of this site:

Although I've already forgotten how she did on today's show (and I'll have to check the transcript to jog my memory), my impression of watching her play the game was that she was both likeable and reasonably intelligent. If I were she, I would be very upset about the manufactured and unfair portrayal in the publicity picture -- even if that was not the intended purpose of that PhotoShopped image.

Good point. No one would want to be misrepresented in such a way. I didn't assume any nefarious intent, but they must have had some reason for altering the image. (Again, as you said, assuming the change was made by the show and not by a fan.)

I wonder if the agreement for him to come back specified who his Expert would be. Probably not, though it might be a factor in deciding whether to put his $25K at risk.

$50K: Although this is a geography question, I've never thought about how many emirates make up the UAE. This sounds like a perfect time to use the PAF.
