What kind of category is "Love That Pipe"? I think the writers have been taking a few hits off one lately...

$50K: An art question. Yeah... I need a PAF badly.

$100K: Pretty sure that it's either Belfast or Glasgow. Double Dip.

$250K: I remember this one from a recent Food Network show about Heinz.

So it looks like I'm playing for $500K with ATA and ATE remaining.

The Titanic question was one of my PAF practice questions!

I also seem to remember a previous show where they asked about Meekat Manor.

Meaning "This is not a pipe," the French phrase "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" appears prominently on a famous painting by whom?

A: René Magritte B: Georges Braque
C: Marcel Duchamp D: Paul Signac
Wikipedia says the title of this painting is The Treachery of Images

Image
The picture shows a pipe that looks as though it might come from a tobacco store advertisement. Magritte painted below the pipe: "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" (This is not a pipe), which seems a contradiction but is actually true. The painting is not a pipe, but rather an image of a pipe. As Magritte himself commented: "The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it’s just a representation, is it not? So if I had written on my picture ‘This is a pipe,’ I’d have been lying!" (cited in Harry Torczyner, Magritte: Ideas and Images, p. 71.)
So that's a famous painting, huh?

No problemo through $25K.

$25,000 * The Big Apple
In the famous statue of Prometheus at NYC's Rockefeller Center, what is the god holding in his right hand?

A: Bucket of water B: Newborn baby
C: Trident D: Ball of fire

If you know the myth of Prometheus, the answer is obvious.

$50,000 * Love That Pipe
Meaning "This is not a pipe," the French phrase "Ceci n'est pas une pipe" appears prominently on a famous painting by whom?

A: René Magritte B: Georges Braque
C: Marcel Duchamp D: Paul Signac

If I have any sense, I use PAF or ATE. But I got it right for the wrong reason. I was recalling an entirely different Magritte painting.

$100,000 * The Titanic
Before it set sail on its ill-fated maiden voyage, the Titanic was built in what city?

A: Oslo B: Belfast
C: Glasgow D: Rotterdam

NAC. Was this mentioned at all in any of the movies about it? PAF with Google, if still available. Otherwise, ATE with a prayer, and possibly walking away.

$250,000 * In the fridge
Now famous for his "57 Varieties," Henry J. Heinz got his start in 1869 selling what product?

A: Sauerkraut B: Vinegar
C: Baked beans D: Horseradish

NAC again. Might have risked DD, as baked beans and sauerkraut did not sound right. Vinegar was my first choice, though.

An okay stack. $25K for sure, but who knows how much more, if any, after that.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Roseann's appearance got a short--very short--mention in the Tucson Citizen:

http://www.tucsoncitizen.com/daily/local/99162.php

Ya think they might have spared her another paragraph or two if she's made it to the million? :|

C: Glasgow D: Rotterdam
I was in Belfast in July and saw the shipyard where Titanic was built, so definitely in my wheelhouse.

First thing I thought of was that scene from the movie, where an Irish passenger tells Jack that Titanic was an Irish ship.

So, I know where the term "llama" as used with respect to the show camefrom but not sure if it's regular use is confined to this Bored. So was the use of "Llama & Order" as the joke response to the $100 clue just random or was it a shout out by the writers to Bored?

Taurus explained our meaning of "llama" when he appeared on llamarama, so it is public knowledge, if not quite a public usage. However, since we suspect the APs and question writers lurk on the Bored from time to time, I prefer to consider it a shout-out. 8)

Roseann is the first of several contestants whose "hook" is health problems.

A: Katie Couric B: Diane Sawyer
C: Barbara Walters D: Jane Pauley
Answer
C: Barbara Walters ( 18 )
I'd be using ATA on this one because although I'm pretty sure I would have known it, I don't think I could have dredged up the answer in the allotted time.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:$16,000 * AKA
"Astral projection" is a fancy term for what supernatural phenomenon?

A: Déjà vu B: Out-of-body experience
C: Reincarnation D: Mind reading
Answer
B: Out-of-body experience ( 19 )
Actually I think there is a distinction drawn between these two - the first refers to being able to consciously leave the body and move around, even traveling to distant places, while the second refers to the experience often described by those near death.

B: Belfast ( )
I suspect that Greg may have been Googling this answer but either his connection was slow or he isn't a quick typist.

Somewhere I came across this fact and it stuck with me. It may have been something that was mentioned during the Kerry campaign in 2004.
"Elen sila lumenn omentielvo...A star shines on the hour of our meeting."
