Two weeks? Two weeks??? AND a last minute, spur of the moment audition? Add a grumble for me, Marley.

This does not look like a real friendly stack for me.

Another family hook.

For all that the topics looked bad, no problemo on the stack so far. I'm curious about "Express Yourself". FedEx/UPS question?
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

I'll add one of yours to many of my own. <grumble>®

And can we scratch Rene off the Expert list, yet? Has she ever even watched the show?

The answer might have something to with Bastille Day, but she's not sure.

How about keeping Brian on the line (and off the clock) while you think about it some more, Rene?

I am wondering if some of the so-called experts recruited from the media could even pass the qualifying test. I don't think it's unreasonable to know when and why Bastille Day occurs for anybody who has completed high school or earned a GED. (I would like to set the bar lower than that, except I know that both mediocre schools and mediocre students proliferate.)

I think Rene is incredibly irresponsible for agreeing to be on the show. She had to have some idea that she is atrocious at trivia questions of any sort. Didn't she realize that her irresponsibility would have real effects on other people?

I disagree with you...you can't ask people to turn the show down, they think of it as entertainment. If you're gonna blame anyone blame the show for getting uneven experts...

She was probably just doing research for her book sequel:

And I do!

If TPTB insist on keeping the ATE next season and insist on recruiting a diverse list of minor celebrities to fill this role, I think they should hire Ogi to give each of them a detailed briefing. He can explain about the clock and how the Expert is the only person not limited by it, how it's important to keep talking, squeezing out every possible detail about each of the choices, soliciting the contestant's feedback (because that's still giving the contesant more time to think), and so forth. Now, if the Expert-trainee listens to that briefing and decides that's too overwhelming and the pressure would be too much, then it would be better for that person to decline the offer to appear in that role.

Clarence, NY is where I student-taught high school Physics back in the spring of 1980 - a small town not to far from Buffalo - and unless things have changed, fairly rural.

I was wondering if any of my former students were watching - and then I realized they would be in their mid-to-late 40's which kind of wierded me out.

Brian is pretty young; he might be one of their kids! :P

(Or, from the address of his PAF team, he might be from out-of-state, so his wife might be the daughter of one of your students.)

Swell - a reluctant contestant gets rewarded by a fast turn-around from test to Hot Seat.

D: Mouth ( 10 )
Oddly at choir rehearsal Wednesday night we were told that the daughter of one of our sopranos was dealing with an infected salivary gland. I had never heard of such a thing.

The two of them looked so young on the screen.

I'll take this as an indirect shoutout to me.

A shame he had to burn two lifelines on this one. I'm still trying to figure out why they chose this particular "expert".
