Well, I don't think it's Charles Darwin or Gregor "Give peas a chance" Mendel.
Also, having two German guys with the same first name, neither of whom I recall hearing about before, seems to confirm that it must be one of them.
So the question is whether I:
1) Risk it on a 50% chance,
2) Use my PAF, who will doubtlessly get it right, or
3) Switch the Question
Hmmm...

Who coined the word "gene", to describe fundamental physical and functional units of heredity?
A. Gregor Mendel
B. Wilhelm Hofmeister
C. Wilhelm Johannsen
D. Charles Darwin
Wilhelm Johannsen abbreviated the term to "gene" ("gen" in Danish and German) two decades after Hugo de Vries called it a pangen.
With that eminently researched and erudite response,
I will go with C. William Johannsen, Final Answer.

OMG! A sports-related question that I actually think I can figure out.Shade wrote:100,000

Arizona has the Diamondbacks MLB team.
Utah has the Jazz NBA team (right?).
Isn't there a football team called the Tennessee Titans?
Connecticut has the Hartford Whalers NHL team.
Uh oh! That doesn't seem to be helping me out. Maybe I am just wrong, or one of these teams no longer exists.
Let me think a bit more.

So, let's look a bit closer.
The key must be that one of these teams no longer exists, although I think they all did at one point.
The Diamondbacks were recently in the World Series, so they probably still exist. The Titans are a very new NFL team, so they should probably still exist too. I think I have heard some news about the Utah Jazz within the last couple of years. But I haven't heard anything about the Whalers since we moved away from Connecticut in 1999.
I will bite the bullet and go with A. Connecticut, Final Answer
