Family Week

Lawler Family
South Brunswick, NJ

Playing for the Lawler family are twelve-year-old seventh grader Connor, mom Tracy and grandfather Tim.

Besides all wanting to go on a family vacation, Connor would like to get a girlfriend and he thinks this will help.

Meredith: Oh, you want to get a girlfriend?

Connor: Yes!

Meredith: Okay.

Tracy: And coming on the show, everyone will see not only how smart he is, how good looking he is, what a catch!

Meredith: Connor, what are you looking for in a woman?

Connor: I haven't really thought about that.

Meredith: No?

Connor: No, I haven't.

Meredith: Which is more important, brains or beauty?

Connor: Beauty.

Meredith: Beauty? Whoaaaaa! We've got a lot of talking to do, Connor. And I know that your classmates did not believe that you were going to be on the show, so is there anything you want to say to them?

Conner: Look at me, now.

Tracy's mother Barbara, husband Jim, daughter Devin and sister Cathy are in the audience.

TPTB are taunting me. Piscataway was close enough to home--my college alma mater is there--but South Brunswick is right next door!

However, I must say that the Lawlers are doing the best job of the week of discussing the answers (loudly enough so that the audience can actually hear them, instead of just whispering) and trusting in each others answers. Retroactive good luck to them, tomorrow!

I see it didn't take them long to start putting in Sarah Palin questions. After the Family Business, I might be in trouble.

Nihil obstat® so far.

My prediction on what the Sarah Palin question will be: Which of the following is not the name of one of Sarah Palin's kids?

$500 * The Melting Pot
The term "melting pot" is often used to refer to the fact that the United State is very what?

A: Well educated B: Culturally diverse
C: Wealthy D: Densely populated
IMHO melting pot has a different meaning that Culturally diverse, It was supposed to mean many cultures becoming one. YVMV.
I don't think anyone would have any trouble picking the "right" answer.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

South Brunswick is closer to NYC than to Philly, so it's in the WABC viewing area.

Good point, TMITSSS! In fact, there was a recent article that I read that discussed this question of whether the United States is becoming less of a "melting pot" and more of a nation of retained ethnic/racial cultures. [The article discussed the issue for immigrant families (1st and 2nd generation, mainly) as to whether to speak their native language in the home or if they should speak English to help the children become more proficient in the language.]

What TMITSS said.

I bet he also knows what the play "The Melting Pot" (popularized the phrase), was originally supposed to be titled.
