Meredith did not use her poker face on this one. She telegraphed that she knew Marina was wrong.

Marina was oblivious to the signal.

Marina was oblivious, period. Major case of hotseatitis, I'd say. Some seriously easy questions to puzzle out, even if you don't know the answer immediately.

"Go, MIT Painters!" Yeah, right.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Oh, come on! Use your brain! What does "sick" mean? Somebody remind me what she called herself:
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Speech therapist who "loves words", calls herself the 'blonde word nerd'
Hell, even the non-word nerds in the WABC® audience could figure that one out.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:$2000- Appropriately, the athletic teams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are known as the what?

MBFFB® is going absolutely nuts right now. TECHNOLOGY! Who works in technology, Marina?!

But... but... but... you're a word nerd!
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:PAF brother Jonathan ... "She's on a game show?"
Hey, ass! Why else would Marina ask you to be on her Phone-A-Friend list?
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Time runs out before Jonathan says anything.
Why am I not surprised?

And obviously, all of these questions went over her head like a lead balloon.

Ugh. I'm glad I missed yesterday's show or I would have been wanting to bang my head on the TV.

Remind me again why the APs pick these people.

I love the graphic of the guy beating his head on the monitor. I bet that's what the transcriptionist felt when typing this transcript!
I'm just a game show nerd.

Cue the ominous organ music. And she's a WE® to boot.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:$200- Which of these companies conducts factory tours that conclude with a complimentary beer sampling?

I've actually been to three of these places (B&Js is the one I've missed).

"I have an idea, but am drawing a blank"
How can she "have an idea" but also be "drawing a blank"? And given the choices, and the dollar level, she should have been able to reason this out, particularly since she's a self-professed "word nerd".
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:$2000- Appropriately, the athletic teams at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are known as the what?

I wonder if she was a little unsettled about having to use her lifeline on the $500 question.

It must be nerves. A "word nerd" should know this.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:Time runs out before Jonathan says anything.
Practice, practice, practice.
BBTranscriptTeam wrote:$8000- What band reportedly got its name from a pessimistic prediction about how its music would "go over" with listeners?

Marina guesses incorrectly (thinking it is A) and finishes with $1000.
Well, I guess "dire straits" might be a reaction from a record company, but "go over" screams out for "lead balloon" and from that it's just a short step to the right answer.

I think that was supposed to be a joke.

When contestants on SyndieBAM identify themselves as nerds, you can bet they do not match the appearance of a nerd.

And her failure to measure up to the standards of a word nerd have already been well commented on.

1K: Funny, I thought that famous street was Lombard St. Or whatever. Maybe its the twistiest, Filbert is the highest? The other 3 choices don't have hills high enough to have a famously high street, however.

Am I allowed to say this contestant used up lifelines for questions in which the answers were handed to her, by their wording, on a silver platter?

Do I care if I'm not allowed?

Oh yeah, I left out my comment on "aught".

OK:

I learned this word from my Dad when I was 7 or 8. He was dealing cards, or handing out points from a card game, or something, & he kept saying "I get (some #) & you get ort". He had a circa 1910, when he was born, NYC Amsterdam Ave or whatever accent. Kinda like FDR but completely without the haughty part. When I asked, he explained that "aught" meant "zero". Of course, I had to see it in print to find out that other people probably didn't pronounce it "ort". With him it was a regular vocabulary word, not a question you could (or could not) earn money answering.
