Transcript 12/04/08 - Sharon Morrill

#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Thu Dec 04, 2008 7:57 pm

Sharon Morrill
Erie, CO
Mother, substitute teacher and high-roller

Sharon started playing poker because she wanted to meet Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and she heard that they played. She didn't meet them, but she did meet her huband, Rodney, who's in the audience. On one of their first dates, Rodney gave Sharon a dollar bill, folded origami-style, just like the dollar bill Rodney's father gave to his mother. Rodney's parents have been married for 43 year; Rodney and Sharon have now been married for two years.

Question Topics:
* Bring a Sweater!
* The Oval Office
* Frontmen of Rock
* The Big House
* Taking Refuge
* Name that Pontiff
* (Pricey Paintings)
* (Twist and Shout)
* (Standing By)
* (Summer Books)
* (In Theaters)
* (Back in the Day)
* (By the Numbers)
* (In-Flight Reading)
* (Long Wars)

Sharon still has the Double Dip and ATE lifelines. Today's expert is $100,000 winner Tom Spencer.

$25,000 * Name that Pontiff
Though he's known to his followers as Benedict XVI, the Pope's real first name is what?

A: Alexander B: Peter
C: Joseph D: Daniel

With 25 seconds left, Sharon decides to Ask The Expert.

Tom: OK, that was Joseph Ratzinger. The current Pope, his first name was Joe--Joseph Ratzinger.

Sharon: And you're so positive on that?

Tom: I am pretty darn positive. Yeah, Benedict XVI, and he was Joseph--Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger before he was elected Pope. I am 9--I'm nervous so I'm going to put that down to 75% sure.

Sharon: 75? Okay, thank you.

Answer
C: Joseph ( 23 )
$50,000 * Taking Refuge
Though mostly famous for other stuff, which of these government properties is also a National Wildlife Refuge?

A: Camp David B: Kennedy Space Center
C: West Point Academy D: Guantanamo Bay naval base

With 15 seconds left, Sharon decides to Double Dip.
Answer
Sharon's first answer is D.
Sharon's second answer is A.

B: Kennedy Space Center ( 9 )
Sharon leaves with $25,000.

$50K: Kennedy Space Center and West Point seemed like such oddball choices amongst the four that one of them just had to be right. I would use Double Dip on those two choices.

Would have gone for Camp David first, then would have panicked when it was wrong and the clock started again. KSC makes sense in retrospect. They're always chasing off birds and gators. Good question.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Gitmo didn't make much sense to me as it is a "leased" military base in a foreign country with which we have no diplomatic relations. Doesn't seem like a good place to establish a National Wildlife Refuge much less send wildlife management folks! Although stranger things have happened I suppose.

With the double dip I probably would have tried Camp David first as well with the Kennedy Space Center as my second choice. West Point just seemed improbable although I suppose the fact that it seems improbable could make it attractive as the unlikely answer at this level.
