Carter is finding it tougher in the real world than he expected. He moved to NYC to live with two friends and ended up in the living room because apartments were so expensive. After a month they put up a wall so he could have some privacy. He expected that they'd be seeing plays and movies and going to the cool clubs. He didn't even know that he'd have to pay for drycleaning. He likes being on his own, though, because no one tells him what to do, no classes to attend. He asks Joel how certain he is; Joel replies that he's not a very sure person about anything, but he thinks he's about 75% sure with Carter's money.

As soon as the clock starts Carter asks for the Double Dip, stopping the clock with 20 seconds left. His first answer is "Julia Child". Meredith says, "No...need to ask what your second answer was."

Meredith says hello and asks Joe how far he thinks Carter has gone. Joe says Carter is pretty smart so he's probably up to $25K, which Meredith confirms as correct. Carter spells the word, then reads the choices. Joe thinks it's a "sword-like knife" but time runs out before he can say how sure he is. Carter says he has no other guess, so he says, "C - bring it home, Joe - final answer."

Carter asks if Meredith knew the answer; she says she didn't. Carter thinks maybe he'll go out and buy one after the show but Meredith cautions him that he probably doesn't want to be seen walking around NYC with a large knife. So Carter changes his mind and says maybe he'll buy a long boat. Meredith says he can do anything he wants.

I would hope he meant that he wanted to reach at least $16K, and that his goal was to win $1MM.

Did they ever say what his college major was? Does he actually work as a real estate agent, or did he just take the exam? Any indication that he's a WE/WE in disguise?

First 8 look good. Whimsy and spies might be trouble. I'm sometimes good with unusual words. A mixed bag for me.

Poor, forgotten Paulette. If only she hadn't been unable to produce a marriage certificate and played Scarlett O'Hara, maybe more people would remember her. My favourites were The Cat and the Canary and So Proudly We Hail. I also liked that novelty number she did with Veronica Lake and Dorothy Lamour.

Speaking of great movies, I knew snickersnee from the Mikado via Topsy-Turvy.

I didn't know Hispanic Heritage Month although, living in an area with a sizeable Mexican population, I probably should have. And, now that I type that, I seem to recall seeing adverts in the past about HHM, but I never would have recalled it in the hot seat, especially with a clock breathing down my neck.

Yes, the warm-up comedian warns the audience about that, but some people have trouble following directions. At clem's taping, there were a couple women who I thought TPTB might have to eject. Somehow, they lasted it out, though.
