Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 2/6/09

#1 Post by Bill Haley » Fri Feb 06, 2009 6:23 am

Lb13 looks like he could use a break, so I stepped in to host Free For All Friday. In honor of one of rock n roll’s most famous songs, The Comets and I have decided to call today’s challenge:

Rock Around The Clock - Lyrically Speaking salutes Timeline®

Each of the twelve sets of lyrics, below, references a specific time. Identify the artist and title and place the lyrics in order based on the missing time reference. The usual title/artist scoring and JJC points apply.

Bonus: 1 additional point for each correct time reference

Comet Bonus: 5 points if you complete the Timeline® and successfully Rock Around the Clock (title, artist and time correct)

1- one o’clock
2- two o’clock
3- three o’clock
4- four o’clock
5- five o’clock
6- six o’clock
7- seven o’clock
8- eight o’clock
9- nine o’clock
10- ten o’clock
11- eleven o’clock
12- twelve o’clock

Oh, I could hide `neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The __________ alarm would never ring.

__________, the radio’s the only light
I hear my song and it pulls me through
Comes on strong, tells me what I got to do

Uh huh, I never stop, I'm usually passin' by, just around __________
And if you let me cool you one time, you'll be my regular stop

__________ this morning
If she should come a calling
I couldn't dream of turning her away

It’s __________ in the morning
And you’re just getting in
You knock on the front door
And a voice sweet and low says
Who is it?

It's __________ and I'm falling,
falling for the same old game,
somebody's been shouting,
let me be by the stage.

Well, it's __________ in Boise, Idaho

It's __________ in the morning
and the rain begin to fall
but I know what I'm needin’
but I don't have it all.

Yeah, here I am sitting on this bar stool,
talking like a damn fool
Got the __________ news blues

It's __________ and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

We made out under the dock
We stayed up until __________

It’s __________ in the morning
Damn it listen to me good
I’m sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time, thank God my music’s still alive

Note: For maximum pointage, please order the lyrics as indicated above
Let's rock around the clock...

Better than I thought at first, but still not good...
1- one o’clock:__________, the radio’s the only light
I hear my song and it pulls me through
Comes on strong, tells me what I got to do

No idea--I'm putting the ones I don't know in order...

2- two o’clock:__________ this morning
If she should come a calling
I couldn't dream of turning her away

Familiar. Sounds like one syllable, too...

3- three o’clock:It’s __________ in the morning
And you’re just getting in
You knock on the front door
And a voice sweet and low says
Who is it?

Nope. Three's not so late to be coming in, but it's the next one on the list...

4- four o’clock:It’s __________ in the morning
Damn it listen to me good
I’m sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time, thank God my music’s still alive

Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Elton John

5- five o’clock:It's __________ and I'm falling,
falling for the same old game,
somebody's been shouting,
let me be by the stage.

Nope

6- six o’clock:Oh, I could hide `neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.
The __________ alarm would never ring.

Cheer Up, Sleepy Jean, Anne Murray and the Monkees (But not together. You know what I mean...)

7- seven o’clock:It's __________ and I want to rock
Want to get a belly full of beer

Saturday Night's All Right For Fighting, Elton John again

8- eight o’clock:Well, it's __________ in Boise, Idaho

What's Your Name (Little Girl)? Lynyrd Skynyrd (Why not Leonard Skeonard? Huh? Huh?)

9- nine o’clock:It's __________ in the morning
and the rain begin to fall
but I know what I'm needin’
but I don't have it all.

Nope

10- ten o’clock:We made out under the dock
We stayed up until __________

WAG Wake Up, Little Susie, The Everly Brothers.

11- eleven o’clock:Uh huh, I never stop, I'm usually passin' by, just around __________
And if you let me cool you one time, you'll be my regular stop

Ice Cream Man, Van Halen? Or just David Lee Roth?

12- twelve o’clock:Yeah, here I am sitting on this bar stool,
talking like a damn fool
Got the __________ news blues

The Bored Theme Song! Too Much Time On My Hands. Styx. I love this song.

OK, unfortunately, you've caught me in a not-so-awesome mood tonight and therefore since I am going to do every LS and I don't know this one I will viciously attack everything about it. And what pisses me off the most is that there's a crapload of points available and I'm not gonna get any of them...no I'm stuck with my 3 or maybe 5 if I'm lucky and I'm supposed to be happy with that. Well I'm NOT happy with that. And dammit I'm not gonna be. So consider yourself warned and consider this set of answers at an extremely large middle finger pointed directly at your face. (Still think I'm funny now?....Didn't think so.....I don't need your pity points...

Too Much Time On My Hands – Styx

This was a most excellent game provided to me by Mr. Haley, and one I had to include once it was presented to me. Who knew that there were even enough sonsg out there to have every hour represented?

JJC Points:

Melo got 3 JJC points for the Larry Craig/Liberace answer on Ice Cream Man! The loudest laugh I had in the game until I got to you-know-who....

Plasticene got a JJC point for at least trying to match up the times, even if he managed to miss all 12 of them.

ghost got a JJC point for referring to Lynyrd Skynyrd as "Some Stud Muffin 80's band"....

Kroxquo got a JJC point for pointing out that he had his one correct answer in order...

TBone, as usual, got a JJC point for being funny...

KT got a JJC point for answering "Elton John again" on teh first Elton song rather than the second...

And last but certainly least, clem, despite the wishes of the game meister who he has forever insulted by thinking that he could possibly do as bad a job of constructing an LS game as I can, still managed to get the supermax of 5 JJC points for once again making me laugh by trying to act all angry and outraged and condescending towards me. I put the +5 down before i even saw the Point Whore, so that had nothing to do with it. Clem, you may want to send her up New england way to personally apologize to Mr. Haley for your outright desecration of his fine game....

Note: Please check and verify that your points are correct. This game was a bitch to grade, especially since I was personally unfamiliar with 4 of these songs and the lyrics got shuffled up on me since they were to be put in order (Also, I did not take off points if you didn't put the lyrics in correct order, I was mainly worried you got the correct time on each one.....)
