Gus Question

#1 Post by TheConfessor » Wed Nov 28, 2007 11:52 am

What number was everyone chasing this morning? I just went to the home page and it shows about 14,640 for the main forum and a total of 14,494 for the total site (adding the four forums together). I surmise that BobJuch "won" the chase, but I don't get how he won, assuming that everyone was chasing after post #15,000. I've never chased a gus, so maybe I'm just confused about the objective.

According to the counter on the home page, post #15000 was Marley's post in the thread about Timsterino's birthday.

No, it wouldn't! That would mean he got it on a response to my post, and I would have missed it by one.

I don't think the Bored Historian will give me credit for that.

PHP's post count, which we see in the "Quote" URLs when chasing a gus, counts messages that were posted and then deleted. I don't think those posts are included in the summary displayed on the Bored index; hence, the discrepancy.

Marley is correct. The counter shown on the index does not count the deleted posts, therefore is inaccurate...
