Dead or Alive, 12-02-07

Identify each one as Dead or Alive. Then take a guess on what the theme is for today. Don't overthink the theme -- if it can't be summed up in one or two words, I'll leave you a hint in the intro. Today's theme probably requires two words, but no more than that. This game will be open until Tuesday at 6 am Central time.

1. John Mellencamp
2. Rosemary Clooney
3. Perry Como
4. Tony Bennett
5. Doris Day
6. John Lennon
7. “Little Eva” Boyd
8. Paul Anka
9. Sam Cooke
10. Marvin Gaye

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Spoiler
1. John Mellencamp - Alive
2. Rosemary Clooney - Dead
3. Perry Como - Dead
4. Tony Bennett - Alive, and still looks better and younger than me (that bastard)
5. Doris Day - Alive
6. John Lennon - Dead
7. “Little Eva” Boyd - Alive?
8. Paul Anka - Alive
9. Sam Cooke - Dead
10. Marvin Gaye - Dead

Theme: You probably want something more specific than just "singers" or "musicians", but I can't think of anything specific. I'll just say ten singers who have never been in my kitchen.

I'm pretty sure that the answer is that they all either had or liked big wookusses.

The tip-off to me was the Doris Day clue, since Sly Stone was her boyfriend for awhile.

My fall-back position, though, is that they're all singers.
