LS 12-3-07…………………………………….1975

1975 is one of my favorite years for music, so here you go...

1. I did a two-step quick-step and a bossa nova
A little Victor Sylvester, and a Rudy Valentino

2. Well, a-giddy-up, a-giddy-up, get away
We’re goin’ crazy, and we’re goin’ today, here we go-oh!

3. Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos

4. Greasy, slicked-down body
Groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road
Mama, it ain't no sin

5. What's that man movin' cross the stage?
It looks a lot like the one used by Jimmy Page
Its like a relic from a different age

6. Twelve forty-five
Headed for the subway home
I took my time
'Cause I felt so all alone

7. And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made

8. Got your lady on the line
Got your name on the cover
Though your friends are ninety-nine
Honey you ain't got no lover

9. Now if you get a flu attack
For 30 days you`re on your back

10. Well, let her be somebody else’s queen
I don’t want to know about it
Enjoy every sandwich

1975 is one of my favorite years for music, so here you go...

It was also a good year to be born. Now let's see if the #1 song from the day I was born is in here (I doubt it is, but that may be a good thing....)

Spoiler
1. I did a two-step quick-step and a bossa nova
A little Victor Sylvester, and a Rudy Valentino

Long Tall Glasses - Leo Sayer

2. Well, a-giddy-up, a-giddy-up, get away
We’re goin’ crazy, and we’re goin’ today, here we go-oh!

3. Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos

I heard this one very recently, but can't remember what it was!

4. Greasy, slicked-down body
Groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road
Mama, it ain't no sin

5. What's that man movin' cross the stage?
It looks a lot like the one used by Jimmy Page
Its like a relic from a different age

6. Twelve forty-five
Headed for the subway home
I took my time
'Cause I felt so all alone

7. And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made

I'm Not In Love - 10cc (The Eyegor special seems to pop up in just about EVERY edition of LS!)

8. Got your lady on the line
Got your name on the cover
Though your friends are ninety-nine
Honey you ain't got no lover

9. Now if you get a flu attack
For 30 days you`re on your back

10. Well, let her be somebody else’s queen
I don’t want to know about it

Well, that was a sucky debut for me....

8. Nope

9. I will know this when I see it...

10. Nope
GAH! Maybe two. You'd think I'd do better since I was a tween girl in 1975....

Spoiler
I knew I had heard #3 very recently... it was on the radio Friday night when I got in my car to go to work. First time I'd ever heard it, too.... the line about socks and shoes stuck in my head.

It would have been more fitting though had it not been the Friday after Black Friday....

Don't you remember when beast was hosting LS and asked the Top 10 to submit a song for a potluck LS where players had to match the song to the person who submitted it and YOU SUBMITTED THAT TURKEY!?!?!?!?!?!

So now it's your theme song. :P

Radio is in the hands of such a lot of fools trying to anesthetize the way that you feel. And I get tired of DJ's. Why's it always what he plays?

Okay--so that's two different songs....

I've heard Bruce Springsteen do this on a bootleg or two. I'm pretty sure he didn't do it in 1975, though. I think the song's called "Rockin' All Over the World" - I think I can hear Creedence singing it in my mind.

Damn, I can't remember if it's You Know I Can't Dance or I Can Dance, because he changes midway through. Bugs me because this was my favourite Leo Sayer song. I'm going You Know I Can't Dance - Leo Sayer.

Bad Time - Grand Funk Railroad (whoo!)

I know a lot of them are wrong, but all the blanks looked so sad so I just put in whatever. Dang, I thought 75 would be a walk in the park. I guess I shouldn't be watching a Jack the Ripper show while I'm trying to get 70's lyrics in my head. Ha!

When the actual title of #1 hit me, I actually clutched my head and screamed. Do I get credit for the parenthetical title? Wait, I think I guessed the other one. Ha!

And Spunky, I'm disappointed in you not getting #5, since I can't stand him and he's your boyfriend.

Never was particularly good with recognizing lyrics.

Now if the choices from 1975 had included:

Boot heels a' shufflin' on the dance floor sand
Drink a little, think a little, shoot a little pool
Hittin' on the cuties right outta high school
Sixteen may get ya twenty, that's all right

Well then, I might have known that one!

I like when I have to think and it tortures me and I laugh when I see just how wrong I was, especially when I know the song. I certainly don't play to win or for glory or adulation (as if). I play to play!

Scoring will have to wait until later tonight, as I am backed up with work, but I figured that I'd post the answers....

LS 12-3-07…………………………………….1975

1975 is one of my favorite years for music, so here you go...

1. I did a two-step quick-step and a bossa nova
A little Victor Sylvester, and a Rudy Valentino
#9 Long Tall Glasses – Leo Sayer

Always loved playing this one at the bar.

2. Well, a-giddy-up, a-giddy-up, get away
We’re goin’ crazy, and we’re goin’ today, here we go-oh!
#27 Rockin’ All Over the World – John Fogerty

Great song from Fogerty's second album. IIRC Status Quo opened Live Aid in 1985 with this song, and one of the idiot VJ's said it was a CCR song. I can forgive a layman for getting it wrong, but a professional...oh nevermind.

3. Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do but feed
All the kangaroos
#37 Black Friday – Steely Dan

I love Steely Dan, and any song with the mention of kangaroos has to be good.

4. Greasy, slicked-down body
Groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road
Mama, it ain't no sin
#38 Trampled Under Foot – Led Zeppelin

I thought more people than just one would have gotten this one just with the last line of the song. The title of this one is always a toughie though

5. What's that man movin' cross the stage?
It looks a lot like the one used by Jimmy Page
Its like a relic from a different age
#12 Venus And Mars/Rock Show – Paul McCartney & Wings

I really never knew what the lyrics were to this one, I used it because it mentioned Jimmy Page.

6. Twelve forty-five
Headed for the subway home
I took my time
'Cause I felt so all alone
#5 Games People Play – The Spinners

My sister always played groups like The Spinners, Tavares & EW&F. I always love the baritone (or is it bass) in this song.

7. And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
#2 I’m Not In Love – 10cc

Mini, how can you not like this song? Unless the Rick Springfield or Donny Osmond versions have poisoned you? I read that there are some 256 vocal dubs on this track, great song on matter what Mini says.

8. Got your lady on the line
Got your name on the cover
Though your friends are ninety-nine
Honey you ain't got no lover
#16 I’m On Fire – Dwight Twilley

No one came up with this one, but I'm sure that you'd know it if you heard it. One of the great singles from the 70's

9. Now if you get a flu attack
For 30 days you`re on your back
#10 It Only Takes a Minute – Tavares
See #6

10. Well, let her be somebody else’s queen
I don’t want to know about it
#4 Bad Time – Grand Funk Railroad

This was a favorite of one of the barteners when I DJ'd, The Jayhawks do a nice version of it too. It's hard to believe that once upon a time Grand Funk was one of the biggest bands in the world

I was fairly lenient on the scoring, since it was the first game and all...
