QOD Monday 12/03 "THE ZODIAC"

#1 Post by fantine33 » Mon Dec 03, 2007 6:16 am

Today's game is open until Midnight Mountain on Tuesday night. The weekend's games are open until MM tonight.

The Zodiac

Give the Western Zodiacal sign for each of the following dates:

1. August 25

2. May 25

3. March 9

4. November 10

5. August 3

QOD: In the Chinese Zodiac, Buddha threw a shindig and the first 12 animals got a year in the order in which they arrived. One animal didn’t make the cut after being tricked by another. (This animal did manage to make it into the Vietnamese Zodiac, replacing the year of the Rabbit.) Who was this unfortunate latecomer?

5 Point Bonus: Which animal was the trickster, who has been paying for it ever since?

I actually did have two questions with the same sign at first, but then I thought that might not be fair, since if you didn't know the first one, you probably wouldn't know the second one, either. Meaning the universal you.

NOPE

Is this where I mention that I hate astrological questions :)
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Can't try the QoD, because even though I could probably name most of the 12 from the placemats at our local Chinese hash palace, I don't know the legend behind it.

This is hard for me, because dogs don't do astrology. Heck, until the creation of the Four-Footed Critters Club and Opera Appreciation Society, only paper dogs had birthdays. (I am pleased to report, however, that the FFCC&OAS now has 40 members, many of whom have picked out birthdays for the first time in their lives.) Here are my guesses, though, based on two-footers I have known and constellations I have learned.
Spoiler
1. Libra

5. Leo

QoD: "I will walk away, Meredith." I have not studied the Chinese zodiac. I am a brownhound, not a Sharpei. If I had to make a guess, I would say Evil Squirrel, because those things are pretty easy to trick.
