The Confessor brought up this question in another thread, earlier today.

Having seen the show now, I think the question writers simply used "surprising" to mean than consumers would normally expect none of these ingredients to be found in their orange juice. Knowing the sources of Omega-3 is the point of the question; fairly valued for this level, IMHO.

But I'll pass on that nice, tall glass of Florida anchovy juice, thanks! :P

I didn't mean the anchovy part, I meant how the contestant said "I"m going to surprise myself..." Surprise yourself by getting the answer wrong, I guess!!

I won't argue with that!

I wonder if he had a reason to think it was chili peppers or if he was taking a wild guess?

Yeah, it's tough to slip anything past ol' Meredith....

Was there an indication that Ryan was googling or checking with somebody else? Stereotypical, I know, but I wouldn't have chosen my male (presumably young) buddy for a soap opera question. Then again, I probably wouldn't have asked somebody from Rolling Stone on the first lick, either.

I knew it wasn't Day of Our Lives (the only soap I ever watched) or General Hospital (which my grandma had on every morning of my formative youth). Hopefully there are some ladies in the audience that enjoy their stories that can help me out here.
Push it real good!

Ryan and I chatted a fair amount (when he wasn't sleeping... he had driven in late the night before IIRC) in the green room, he was a very nice guy. Based on my sense of his personality , I think this was a guess and his "suprising" comment referred to the risk he was taking.

As a point of additional trivia, Ryan got to the hotseat via the audience-member audition when he came to watch his sister, Shireen:

Today was the first day I managed to spot my wife and cousin in the audience, sitting behind and to the right of Ryan's sister and girlfriend. Woo hoo!

Oh yeah, there was definitely googling going on, Ryan had several seconds to spare.
I think you could even hear the keystrokes; Meredith went so far as to joke about "I wonder where he pulled that from..."

I couldn't hear any typing in the background, but I'd bet that was googling. 8)

Surprisingly, if you further fortify the O.J. with a substance derived from potatoes, it becomes a screwdriver.

Does it have to be glowing?

$8K: The only one of these soap operas I've ever watched was "Days", and I know that show takes place in Salem. Let's try the audience.

I got everything else correct.

SNL's Bassomatic was just ahead of its time, apparently.
