It helps to live more to the north. Our office paper clips are apparently also sold in Quebec, and has the French word on it.

I can offer a little bit of firsthand context here, as I spoke to Carrie after she stepped offstage, shellshocked:

I wouldn't describe a paper clip as "curvaceous" - that seems more fitting for a woman's figure, and thus "violin" would make sense. The convoluted shape of the clip definitely looks like a slide trombone, though.
