You trademarked a wonderfully concise phrase with that Nihil obstat® (even though it annoys some people). Adding the perfectly obvious "so far" detracts from its perfect conciseness.

IMHO, clearly.

Why the <grumble>®, frogman?

You have the opportunity to come up with a trademarked Bored phrase, too!

Whatever. I understand thread hijacking, but that means nothing to me.

And I still don't know if you were actually grumbling about something or if you were reminding me--as if I could ever forget--about my own trademarked Bored phrase.

OK - it really is much ado about nothing - so if you care - this is what I was thinking which generated my responses:

You mentioned I have the opportunity to come up with my own trademark - so I punned on 'Trade' 'Mark' by referencing when Mark McGwire got traded (thereby creating a TradeMark based on Trading Mark) - since he was traded mid-season from one league to the other - I gave my own Trade Mark to mean changing from one thing to another - lame, I will be the first to admit. Thus the reference the HBPOTD - Hidden Bad Pun Of The Day.

What my <grumble>® response was simply that I was amused by your reference to someone else's '®' phrase - which was, as I read it, a mild complaint on how earendel was using his trademark , so I thought I would pretend to complain about your complaint by stealing your trademark.

Okaaaaay.

As I said, I like earendel's Nihil obstat®. I wasn't complaining about it; just pointing out that the addition of "so far" dilutes the elegance of the phrase.

It's like a traditional Japanese line drawing that uses the minimum number of strokes necessary to capture the essence of its subject, and not a line more! 8)

But thanks for explaining something I was too obtuse to figure out on my own. :)

wow, this thread is degenerating quickly!

I think of the okaaaaay phrase as a scared sarcasm, not so much an accusation of idiocy. Kind of a "back away slowly and maybe I can get away before he says another one" approach.

I was amused by the TradeMark trademark, but only after getting the translation. Yes Jay, it was a long stretch for this non-baseball fan.

It reminds me of a conversation I recently had with a friend:

This friend has a baseball cap emblazoned with the logo for a company called "RedHat computing"
The cap also happens to be scarlet in color...

This friend proudly points out,

"it's my red RedHat hat"

Personally, I think continuing this joke a day after it was over is kind of lame.

But that's okay.
