Lyrically Speaking 6-11-09

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Wed Jun 10, 2009 7:56 pm

The first four songs share a depressing word in the title. The word may be in singular or plural form. The next four share a much better word. One point for each title and one point for each artist.

1. Yes, it’s been quite a summer
Rent-a-cars and west-bound trains
And now you’re off on vacation
Somethin’ you tried to explain

2. [title], can’t trust that day
[title], sometimes it just turns out that way

3. What I’ve got they used to call the blues
Nothing is really wrong
Feeling like I don’t belong
Walking around, some kind of lonely clown

4. I got nothing but love for you
So tell me what you really wanna do
First you love me then you get on down the line
But I don’t mind

5. A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it (yes, I can)

6. It’s hard on a fella when he don’t know his way around
If I don’t find me a honey
To help me spend my money
I’m gonna have to blow this town

7. Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"

8. Big Jim’s been drinkin’ whiskey
And playing poker on a losin’ night
And pretty soon Big Jim starts a thinkin’
Somebody’s been cheatin’ and lyin’

(Tell me why!) I don't like...
1. "Come Monday", Jimmy Buffett
2. "Monday, Monday", the Mamas and the Papas
3. "Rainy Days and Mondays", the Carpenters
4. "Monday Morning", Fleetwood Mac
5. "Saturday in the Park", Chicago
6. "Another Saturday Night", originally Sam Cooke, a great cover later by Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam
7. "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", Elton John
8. "Saturday Night Special", Lynyrd Skynyrd

And for a bonus: What song is suspiciously missing from this game? Of course, it's "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats! :D

4. I got nothing but love for you
So tell me what you really wanna do
First you love me then you get on down the line
But I don’t mind

5. A man playing guitar
Singing for us all
Will you help him change the world
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
SATURDAY IN THE PARK -- CHICAGO

6. It’s hard on a fella when he don’t know his way around
If I don’t find me a honey
To help me spend my money
I’m gonna have to blow this town
ANOTHER SATURDAY NIGHT -- SAM COOKE, CAT STEVENS, ETC.

7. Well they're packed pretty tight in here tonight
I'm looking for a dolly who'll see me right
I may use a little muscle to get what I need
I may sink a little drink and shout out "She's with me!"
SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALL RIGHT FOR FIGHTING -- ELTON JOHN

8. Big Jim’s been drinkin’ whiskey
And playing poker on a losin’ night
And pretty soon Big Jim starts a thinkin’
Somebody’s been cheatin’ and lyin’
