Lyrically Speaking 12-10-07 - Scoring & Such

#1 Post by traininvain » Mon Dec 10, 2007 8:04 am

LS #6……………………………………1957

Seems 1957 was the year of the cover, or was it the year of the homage? Anyway there were a plethora of covers: Almost Paradise (2), Around the World (3), At the Hop (2), Banana Boat Song (3), Butterfly (2), Cinco Robles (2), Dark Moons (2), A Fallen Star (2), Fasination (3), Four Walls (2), Frieght Trains (2), I’m Walkin’ (2), In the Middle of an Island (2), The Joker (2), Love Me Forever (2), Moonlight Swim (2), Party Doll (2), Pledge of Love (2), Raunchy (3), Sittin’ in the Balcony (2), Tammy (2), Silhouettes (2), White Silver Sands (2), You Send Me (2), and Young Blood (2). Whew, that’s a lot of covers. So we’ve got some classic songs from a classic year, it’s…1957

1. Well, bless my soul
What`s wrong with me
I`m itching like a man
On a fuzzy tree

2. There goes my baby
With-a someone new.
She sure looks happy.
I sure am blue.

3. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, But what a thrill

4. All of my love, all of my kissing
You don't know what
You've been a missing

5. I have no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until it sounds just like a symphony

6. I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me

7. At first I thought
It was infatuation
But woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home

8. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby dom
Whoa whoa whoa whoa

9. Sylvia
Yes, Mickey
How do you call your loverboy
Come here, loverboy

10. I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk

7. At first I thought

I know I've heard this one... but can't connect it to it's proper song. For some reason, they play a lot of stuff from the 50's regularly on the Wal~Mart radio, and I'm sure that's where I know this from, so I'm gonna take a guess and say Hey Paula - Paul Anka, which I've heard numerous times subconscioussly....

8. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby dom
Whoa whoa whoa whoa

I know what song this is... just don't ask me for the title or who sang it

9. Sylvia
Yes, Mickey
How do you call your loverboy
Come here, loverboy

10. I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk

It's not The Big Bopper's Chantilly Lace, but that's all I can think of....

Well, I know a bunch more of these than I thought I would. Or, at least I think I do. Because I'm getting the same artist twice. And since the year is important, I know I'm WRONG!

1. Well, bless my soul
What`s wrong with me
I`m itching like a man
On a fuzzy tree

This is All Shook Up. And if it ain't Elvis, it should be!

2. There goes my baby
With-a someone new.
She sure looks happy.
I sure am blue.

Bye Bye Love, Everly Brothers

3. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, But what a thrill

Great Balls of Fire, Jerry Lee Lewis

4. All of my love, all of my kissing
You don't know what
You've been a missing

Oh Boy, the late great Buddy Holly

5. I have no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until it sounds just like a symphony

Rock and Roll Music, I'm putting Beach Boys

6. I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me

Stupid weeping willow put in Song Sung Blue and I can't get it out. So, nope. And I'll probably know it!

7. At first I thought
It was infatuation
But woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home

You Send Me, and I can't for the life of me get the guy's name out of the crevices of my moldy brain! AAAAGGGHHHH!

8. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby dom
Whoa whoa whoa whoa

I'm hearing Beach Boys again. And I'm singing this song and I don't know the title! Come and go with me? Something like that...

9. Sylvia
Yes, Mickey
How do you call your loverboy
Come here, loverboy

I know there is a group called Mickey and Sylvia. And something form Dirty Dancing. And...Vagueness Alert! I give up on this one...

10. I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk

All I get is Suzy Q by Creedence. And I doubt that's from 1957...

Not that it matters (it's wrong anyway), but #8 should have an "L" as the first letter of the last word.

But why not quote Rumrunner or Government Center - both better songs than Pablo Picasso

1957, eh? Yep, remember it well. Not.

Nothing from my favorite artist that was written this early of course but according to a later tune that he did pan he at least might have been singing this classic little dity around that time.

Settle down far from town, get me a pirogue
And I'll catch all the fish in the bayou
Swap my mon to buy Yvonne what she need-o
Son of a gun, we'll have big fun on the bayou.
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.
~Mark Twain

I had that song running through my head all weekend long, I must have heard it on the radio Friday night, I've been singing that one line to myself all weekend long. And yes, it cracks me up too mini.

Hmm, Rumrunner, that must be one of their early tracks from the 30's.

That whole album is great, I really love Modern World off that record.
Enjoy every sandwich

Seems 1957 was the year of the cover, or was it the year of the homage? Anyway there were a plethora of covers: Almost Paradise (2), Around the World (3), At the Hop (2), Banana Boat Song (3), Butterfly (2), Cinco Robles (2), Dark Moons (2), A Fallen Star (2), Fasination (3), Four Walls (2), Frieght Trains (2), I’m Walkin’ (2), In the Middle of an Island (2), The Joker (2), Love Me Forever (2), Moonlight Swim (2), Party Doll (2), Pledge of Love (2), Raunchy (3), Sittin’ in the Balcony (2), Tammy (2), Silhouettes (2), White Silver Sands (2), You Send Me (2), and Young Blood (2). Whew, that’s a lot of covers. So we’ve got some classic songs from a classic year, it’s…1957

1. Well, bless my soul
What`s wrong with me
I`m itching like a man
On a fuzzy tree

2. There goes my baby
With-a someone new.
She sure looks happy.
I sure am blue.

3. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, But what a thrill

4. All of my love, all of my kissing
You don't know what
You've been a missing

5. I have no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until it sounds just like a symphony

6. I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me

7. At first I thought
It was infatuation
But woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home

8. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby dom
Whoa whoa whoa whoa

9. Sylvia
Yes, Mickey
How do you call your loverboy
Come here, loverboy

10. I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
