1. Well, bless my soul
What`s wrong with me
I`m itching like a man
On a fuzzy tree
#1 All Shook Up – Elvis Presley
Hey kids it’s Elvis. He only have like 10 Top 40 hits that year, and I think 4 of them were #1’s. Not bad for a kid form Tupelo.
2. There goes my baby
With-a someone new.
She sure looks happy.
I sure am blue.
#2 Bye Bye Love – The Everly Brothers
How is it possible that this didn’t make it to #1? Written by Boudleaux Bryant/Felice Bryant, one of the greatest songwriting teams of all-time.
3. You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, But what a thrill
#2 Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
Another one that should have made it to the top of the charts. I’m still kind of surprised that it wasn’t banned across the country. Written by Otis Blackwell another great songwriter who also ‘co-wrote’ with Elvis All Shook Up.
4. All of my love, all of my kissing
You don't know what
You've been a missing
#10 Oh Boy – Buddy Holly
Buddy Holly is one of my favorite artists ever, and I’m still amazed that his recording career only last less than 3 years. He was one of the first artists (along with Chuck Berry) to strap on a guitar and write and record his own songs. Now, MCA, could you please release The Complete Buddy Holly on CD, before the CD era ends?
5. I have no kick against modern jazz
Unless they try to play it too darn fast
And change the beauty of the melody
Until it sounds just like a symphony
#8 Rock ‘n’ Roll Music – Chuck Berry
Only made it to #8! In fact Berry only had one #1 hit, and that was the not so good My Ding a Ling. Chuck Berry pretty much invented Rock ‘n’ Roll, so I don’t know where we be without him.
6. I stop to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow
Maybe he's crying for me
#12 Walkin’ After Midnight – Patsy Cline
Beautiful voice, gorgeous song. I was surpised that it only made it to #12.
7. At first I thought
It was infatuation
But woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home
#1 You Send Me – Sam Cooke
My wedding song. Another great singer and songwriter, and one of the most heavenly voices ever, he pretty much invented Soul Music.
8. Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby
Dom dom dom dom dom, dom be dooby dom
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
#4 Come Go With Me – The Del Vikings
Congratulations to all those who got this one. There’s a great scene in American Hot Wax where they’re recording this song.
9. Sylvia
Yes, Mickey
How do you call your loverboy
Come here, loverboy
#11 Love is Strange – Mickey & Sylvia
I figured that everyone one (but me) own the Dirty Dancing soundtrack, or had at least seen the movie.
10. I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
I like the way you walk
I like the way you talk
#27 Susie-Q – Dale Hawkins
Not to be confused with Screamin’ Jay Hawkins or Ronnie Hawkins. Never really had another hit, but later went on to a successful record producing career.
