Lyrically Speaking 12-11-07 - Scoring & Such

#1 Post by traininvain » Tue Dec 11, 2007 7:45 am

Another great year from the 70's, I could have used about 50 fantastic songs from this year. The Beatles broke up, Janis Joplin & Jimi Hendrix died and Elton John released his first album, it's 1970.

LS #7……………………………………..1970

1. When Alexander called you
He said he rang your chimes
Christopher discovered
You`re way ahead of your times

2. Joey tried to help me find a job a while ago
When I finally got it I didn't want to go
The party Mary gave for me
When I just walked away
Now there's nothing left for me to say

3. Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Evryone come on

4. I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom

5. Fats Domino!
Smiley Lewis!
Chuck Berry!
Huey Smith!
Oh!

6. We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each others wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace

7. Did I hear you say that there must be a catch
Will you walk away from a fool and his money

8. Bring home my name
On the wings of a flea
Wind in the plains
Dance once for me

9. Leroy, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin’ days were through

10. No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

I listen to this Greatest Hits CD all the time. Mini-me used to love it! Stop, The Love You Save, Jackson 5

2. Joey tried to help me find a job a while ago
When I finally got it I didn't want to go
The party Mary gave for me
When I just walked away
Now there's nothing left for me to say

I will know this. Since the first one is MJ, this has to be The Osmonds. I was in first grade. I went to a David Cassidy concert. So sue me...

3. Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Evryone come on

Instant Karma, John Lennon

4. I wait in the darkness of my lonely room

Band of Gold, don't know her name!

5. Fats Domino!
Smiley Lewis!

6. We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each others wounds
We all had caught the same disease

Not even close to familiar.

7. Did I hear you say that there must be a catch
Will you walk away from a fool and his money

Come and Get It, Badfinger. I only know the artist from missing this on other LS'seseses

8. Bring home my name
On the wings of a flea
Wind in the plains
Dance once for me

No, but it sound pretty lame.

9. Leroy, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin’ days were through

Nope

10. No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn

Ah, the Doors. Texas Radio and the Big Beat. I had a 6-foot tall poster of Jim Morrison on the wall in my dorm. I didn't 'get' them the first time around, being the age to go to David Cassidy concerts...

1. When Alexander called you
He said he rang your chimes
Christopher discovered
You`re way ahead of your times
#1 The Love You Save – The Jackson 5

Ah, the J5. Well before Michael “lost” it. I never realized how racey the lyrics were, how in the world did they let a 9 year old listen to music like this? Oh, it was his 13 year old sister.

2. Joey tried to help me find a job
A while ago
When I finally got it I didn't want to go
The party Mary gave for me
When I just walked away
Now there's nothing left for me to say
#34 Burning Bridges – The Mike Curb Congergation

Come one, haven’t you people seen Kelly’s Heroes like a hundred times like me? “Woof, woof, woof! That's my other dog imitation”. I can remember staying up late in the 70’s waiting for the movie to end and recording this song with my trusty cassette recorder, HOLDING THE MIC TO THE TV SPEAKER! Those were the days.

3.Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Evryone come on
#3 Instant Karma - John Lennon

I used to think he was singing “Mrs Carter’s gonna get you”. Didn’t know who Mrs. Carter was, but I was determind to stay away from her.

4. I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness, filled with gloom
#3 Band of Gold – Freda Payne

Only reached #3! I seem to remember hearing this while we were camping about a million times. So what was up with her husband in the song, is he gay, or maybe he just needs some Viagra, which of course wouldn’t be available for another 28 years. That marriage is doomed. Stay away from the Belinda Carlisle version, and who the Hell is Kimberley Locke?

5. Fats Domino!
Smiley Lewis!
Chuck Berry!
Huey Smith!
Oh!
#4 I Hear You Knockin’ – Dave Edmunds

Congratulations to everyone who got this one, I wasn’t sure if my ‘clue’ would be good enough. I am a HUGE Edmunds fan. This is his only real hit, along with Slipping Away which only made it to #39 in 1983.

6. We were so close, there was no room
We bled inside each others wounds
We all had caught the same disease
And we all sang the songs of peace
#6 Lay Down (Candles In The Rain) – Melanie

No time to comment on this song, I’m too busy looking for my lost skate key.

7. Did I hear you say that there must be a catch
Will you walk away from a fool and his money
#7 Come and Get It - Badfinger

Written by Paul McCartney for The Magic Christian film. It sounds like Paul McCartney because they recorded it just like the demo that he made of the song.

8. Bring home my name
On the wings of a flea
Wind in the plains
Dance once for me
#30 Soolaimon – Neil Diamond

Congrats fo T-Bone for getting this one. My kids love this song and my friend love this song so much that he named his band Soolaimon, about a week later they broke up the band.

9. Leroy, boy, is that you?
I thought your post-hangin’ days were through
#20 We Got to Get You a Woman – Todd Rundgren

Yes the Real TR, wasn’t that one of Beast’s question on his Bored quiz?

10. No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn
DNC The WASP (Texas Radio and the Big Beat) – The Doors

During the later half of the 70’s I was a bit of a fanatic about The Doors, you’d all better hope I don’t use Horse Latitudes for an upcoming LS…When the still sea conspires an armor…
