Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Well...this sounds to me like it's an "alternate method" to audition, the one that everyone has been waiting for!!!
And also a way for those not near NYC or any road audition site to be able to qualify without incurring major expenses. Video, online test - all it costs is your time.
So all in all, good news, right?!?!

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Its crap news & sunflower knows it.
So they get a tape they like, because the auditioner is running around nekkid & howling or whatever. Stuff they like.
They get the auditioner to take a written test.
Auditioner, good at running nekkid & howling, not so good at trivia, fails.
Auditioner is invited to stay in NYC for a week or so & take the test repeatedly, 'til they pass it, which they will if they have a memory & access to google at all, the tests being repeated; if not identical every day, it will be identical to one they failed but looked up soon.
And if of course they interject a J! style on-line trivia test, well, even J! makes people take a new test in-person after they pass the 1st on the theory that maybe the person attached to the name isn't really the person who took the test. There's really no other reason.

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Probably not good news to those who have a hard time passing the 'interview portion' of the current process but..... better news has not come our way in years.
I like the 'backwardness' of it - first get by the 'personality/hook' portion, then the test - pass the test and you are in the pool!
You only have to have a hook and a personality for the video - how cool is that? It is easier to practice and edit and script.
I am excited for some.

Where did you read this? What I read said there was an online test with a 3 hour window.ghostjmf wrote:Auditioner is invited to stay in NYC for a week or so & take the test repeatedly, 'til they pass it, which they will if they have a memory & access to google at all, the tests being repeated; if not identical every day, it will be identical to one they failed but looked up soon.
I also read that all July NYC auditions are full and closed.
So I'm not really sure where you're getting your information. You being cynical and bitter, I get. But I really thought this was good news for those without easy access to audition sites. So no, sunflower does not know this is crap, but thanks for trying to put words in my mouth.

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
I didn't read it. I was conjecturing. A 3-hour window? For a show that now has a 10-second clock to begin with? This is even "better" than my conjecture. By the way, people have reported on using that "learn the test" method. The people who report doing that can at least learn.

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Here is what I read it said:
1. Send a video. The video must arrive between now and July 16. The video should show why you would make a good contestant and tell what you would do with the money.
2. Videos will be reviewed and they will pick who gets to take the test. The test will be on July 17.
3. Those that pass the test will be in the Video Submission Pool. If you get plucked from that pool - you are in the hot seat.
Makes me wonder what's with the distinctions in pools?

I read that those selected to take the test will be given a time to take it during that 3 hour window.

Am I missing something? Where does it say this?
I'm with pea on this, sort of. I'm not an overly original type for videos or ideas for them. Still, I may give this a shot.
I would be interested in seeing what types of video are successful. Are they looking for outrageous and over the top? Or more like loaded with perkitude and pleasant to look at? Certainly not a Ben Stein persona, but do they want Ozzy Osbourne wannabes?
However, I do agree that an in-person test should be given to make sure that the auditioner was really the person taking the online test. Unless they're just looking for RoF fodder who can wave nicely at the camera but will be nearly certain to fail while their road auditioners keep winning the FF rounds.ghostjmf wrote:Auditioner is invited to stay in NYC for a week or so & take the test repeatedly, 'til they pass it, which they will if they have a memory & access to google at all, the tests being repeated; if not identical every day, it will be identical to one they failed but looked up soon.

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Your post doesn't even make sense. The test is always timed, so I'm not sure what the complaint is about. And you're only allowed to take it once, it's not like you get to take it over and over for 3 hours. You have taken the Jeopardy! test, right? So I'm not sure why this concept is so foreign to you!! Did you even click on the link provided and read all of the information, or did you just start complaining first?? Never mind, I know the answer. Here is the test info section...ghostjmf wrote:I didn't read it. I was conjecturing. A 3-hour window? For a show that now has a 10-second clock to begin with? Maybe you should stop being so negative and pessimistic, and maybe, just maybe, you'd have a chance of getting on the show. They like perky and happy, not doom and gloom. The online test will be given on Friday, July 17, 2009 between the hours of 7 PM ET and 10 PM ET. Persons selected to take the test will be notified by email and given the test site URL and time of their test session. The notification will be sent to the email address provided for this purpose during the video submission process. People who receive a passing score on the test will be put into the Pool.

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
Funny how the two people who've been on the show and commented her so far think it's a good idea, whereas those of us who are still trying just see it as another way for TPTB to weed out the insufficiently interesting or perky before having a clue as to whether the potential contestant knows their ass from a hole in the ground.
Is this good news for those who can't get to NYC or a road audition? Maybe. I think it'll certainly be a quick process for a lot of us. But I really think they should give the test first, since then there's not even the slightest hint of impropriety. This way certainly leaves open the door to accusations (true or not)that they make up a passing score for a contestant that's indirectly proportional to that contestant's perkyness.
As for me, I know from last year's
card after a video interview that I'm unlikely to be chosen for taking the test, so it's doubtful I'll bother. And where's the info on the promised phone game, huh? I'm not holding my breath yet on that one, either.

I don't get it. If you had no problem with the phone game, where someone could easily have had another play for them - what's with the problem with the on line test?gsabc wrote:Am I missing something? If you are thinking of sending a video - make it good about how the money will change your life.
Make it compelling and have them want you to get the money.
Play the game - the game before sitting in the hot seat is "Make Them Want Me".

It's not the alternate method I was waiting for (although it was one I suspected they might use) and not good news, IMHO.sunflower wrote:Well...this sounds to me like it's an "alternate method" to audition, the one that everyone has been waiting for!!!

So there is going to be an online test, but it's not open to everyone. Can't have an undesirable contestant get onto the show, like when it began, without passing their personality/demographic test first.Producer will review videos and select those to advance to an online test on Friday, July 17, 2009. Those persons receiving a passing score on the online test will be placed into the Video Submission Pool. Producer will select entrants from Pool to receive an Eligibility Call. Those who complete the call and meet all eligibility requirements will be declared Finalists and travel to New York City with a friend for the opportunity to play for a chance to sit in the hot seat on network episodes of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ("Program") with Regis Philbin. **(see special note below)

For any video cam expert out there: Will a standard Kodak Easy Share Cam Video work? It certainly can go for 2 mins. (although I don't know if I can w/o scripting it). There must be an email where they want those sent, I didn't notice that at first glance?

Few who passed an audition for "ROF contestant" passed it again for "put right into the seat on Syndi". Silvercam did that. Anyone else?
Actually, I was on the show. From an audition, of all things. The Prime Time show. Obviously, I did not win my 2 FFs.you'd have a chance of getting on the show

Hmm, interesting news. I just hope and pray that a

Because anybody interesting and/or personable enough to have their video selected will obviously be too stupid to pass the test. Duh!peacock2121 wrote:I don't get it. I don't know why it even matters. I'm not up on my game show laws, but they aren't required to give a test at all, are they? And if they did give a test, it could be one of those like they have in Canada where they just ask prize winners something like what's 4 plus 5 to hold to the letter of the law that it be skill based.
If they weren't interested in having people who would have a shot at doing well on the show, they could just dump the test completely. It would certainly be less costly and time consuming for them.
Screw you guys, I'm going home.

It doesn't. Say it. I was taking the ball & running with what NYC live-site audition attendees who fail but are told "we like you come back" have said here.Am I missing something? Where does it say this?

Re: You can now send a video to WWTBAM to audition
I couldn't have said it better myself. Every potential contestant should take this to heart and also remember what Pea said earlier about (paraphrasing here) being able to script and rehearse and edit, which is a HUGE advantage over a live interview. Start preparing, get those videos made and for goodness sake, get excited and be positive!!!peacock2121 wrote:If you are thinking of sending a video - make it good about how the money will change your life.
