Night #6

Put these words in order to form a part of the skeletal system:
1. Joint
2. Socket
3. And
4. Ball
Spoiler
4-3-2-1
Put these world capitals in geographical order, starting in North America and going east:
1. Zagreb
2. New Delhi
3. Ottawa
4. Bucharest
Spoiler
3-1-4-2
Put these movie actors in chronological order according to the year of their birth, starting with the most recent:
1. Keanu Reeves
2. Leonardo DiCaprio
3. Alec Baldwin
4. Robert DeNiro
Spoiler
2-1-3-4
Put these musicians in order of the size of instrument they play, starting with the smallest:
1. Van Cliburn
2. Charlie Parker
3. James Galway
4. Yo-Yo Ma
Spoiler
3-2-4-1
Put these events in Irish history in chronological order, starting with the earliest:
1. Potato Famine
2. St. Patrick returns to Ireland
3. Republic of Ireland is formed
4. Northern Ireland peace agreement
Spoiler
WTF?! Another history question at level 5?! If there's one thing I hate more than U.S. history, it's world history.

I knew the Potato Famine was 1800s, St. Patrick was several hundreds years before that, and the peace agreement was recent. So the establishment of the Irish Republic was a total tossup.

I punched 2-1-3-4.

AND SAD FRED GOES SILENT! ON A HISTORY QUESTION! SUCK ON THAT, FRED!

I'm in the swimming pool for August 5. Here's hoping that the seventh time is the charm for my callback!

WTG Nelly! If you had to get a history question, that would be the one to run into, the luck of the Irish.

I suspect Nelly was not able to play every night.

OK, I'm having serious issues with this question and a paranoia that it's going to come up. All 4 of these have film adaptations, but only two of them have stage adaptations. Going in order of film adaptations, it should be 4132. However, if we were to go by when they were first debuted as either stage adaptations or films, then it should be 1342. Anyone wanna help me out on something I'm missing?

Maybe it was "South Carolina seceded."
Alright now guys, give me a break, do you honestly think I don't know what "seceded" means.

The more I think about it, maybe it was the word reacquired that threw me, which would mean when SC rejoined the union after seceding prior to the Civil War. Not sure of this, guess we will have to wait and see if someone else gets the question. Would certainly explain my certainty in what order to place them.

My first try, having just learned of it.

First one, I don't remember at the moment and I've misplaced my scrap paper. Probably something silly.

Next one. Put these graduation ranks in order, highest to lowest:

A. Cum Laude
B. Summa cum laude
C. Magna cum laude
D. Without honors
Spoiler
b,c,a,d
Third question. Arrange these music halls geographically, going from west to east:

A. Something with "LA" or "Los Angeles" in its name
B. Preservation Hall
C. Carnegie Hall
D. Grand Ole Opry
Spoiler
a,b,d,c
Fourth Question. Put these books in order of original publication, starting with the earliest:

A. Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
B. Angela's Ashes
C. Cry, the Beloved Country
D. I know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Spoiler
a,c,d,b.

So...as the titles were being read I was writing, for simplicity's sake, my estimated publishing date rather than the title. First wrote "1920" (probably a bit late but close enough and I didn't want to think too hard), then 1989 (gotta be pretty close. Maybe a tiny bit early), then 1960 (I checked this, 1948 is right. Still, good enough), then 1970 (pretty close, I think, though I have not checked). Then I had written them in date order rather than the order they'd been read (1920, left some space before 1989, then inserted 1960, then put 1970 just below it). Ten seconds was not enough time to recover from this stupidity.

I'm certain I got it right, but must have typed them in the wrong order or something. Anyway it is Parton, Gill, Twain, Swift but my order was not 4321 so maybe the choices had Gill and Swift swapped. I've correct my Q above so it is correct. Thanks for pointing this out.

I dimly remembered a controversy, but I thought it was about animal weight, not longevity.

Heck, there's room for more than one animal controversy.

All the sources I've Googled have chimps occasionally making it into their late 50s/60, whereas the elephant average age is given as 69.

I'd love if someone who "made it through" this question would confirm what they want.

The rain intensity question too!

I'd love to know what source BAM is using.

I'm 58 (eeeeeeee!) & my brother the I-think Eagle Scout is 67. It would have been my brother & his contemporaries who were Eagle Scouts or striving for that. I honestly never heard them mention any of those other intermediate steps.

At any rate, I'm lucky the question didn't ask about those other steps, or I'd have been out of Q2 again instead of finally hearing a Q3.

A completely disgusting night of the phone game. Sat around the kitchen table after dinner with the whole family. The wife, 2 oldest kids and I are age eligible. Used the speaker phone. First up, the wife:

Q1. Put this ad slogan in order:
1. It
2. Pays
3. Met
4. Get
4,3,1,2 And we all sat there, completely dumbfounded. None of us had EVER heard this before.

Next up, oldest daughter:
Q1. Put this politician's name in order:
1. President
2. Abram
3. James
4. Garfield
1,3,2,4

Q2. Put these musicians in order of birth, earliest:
1. Elton John
2. Mary Blige
3. Madonna
4. Jason Moraz
1,3,2,4

Q3. Put these cities on some interstate in order, North to South:
1. Somewhere in Kansas
2. Somewhere in Texas
3. Somewhere in Oklahoma
4. Duluth (everyone at the table, except me, of course, thought it was Duluth Georgia. Sheeeeeeeesh)
4,1,3,2 And that's what I entered on the phone... and Sad Fred came. Makes no sense to me.

Next up, oldest son:
Q1. Human anatomy question, head to toe.... easy one.

Q2. Put the politicians in order by birth..... already listed on the bored. Clinton, Dole, edwards, McCain

Q3. Put these products in order by when they were introduced:
1. Pez
2. Microwave popcorn
3. CrackerJacks
4. Bubble Gum
3,4,1,2 Never knew Cracker Jacks were older than gum

Next up, me:
Q1. Put in order
1. Old
2. Habits
3. Hard
4. Die
1,2,4,3

Q2. Put these in order by safest to worst
1. Near Extinct
2. Extinct in the wild
3. Critical
4. Vunerable
WTF????? WE tried, we were wrong. I've googled, best I could, couldn't find the right order. What kind of fucking Q2 is this????

Oh well. 2 more tries to go.

Yeah, whoever has been programming these questions is totally incompetent. Way too many WWOQs on the first two levels.

I think this is a bogus question. "Near extinct" is not an official IUCN conservation status. There is an "extinct in the wild" and an "extinct", but there is no "near extinct". I assume that "near extinct" would be more severe than "extinct in the wild" because "near extinct" implies that there are only a couple of a particular species left in existence while "extinct in the wild" indicates that many of a species exist in captivity or some other place not in the wild.

And technically, "critical" is not an official status either. It's called "critically endangered". And that status is more severe than "vulnerable".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endangered_species

They misnamed two of them- "critical" should be "Critically endangered" and "near extinct" should have been "near threatened".

Making those assumptions, the order would be 1432- which you would never be able to logically figure out from what they said.

Of course, you could also make the assumption "near extinct" meant "Endangered" (since the "endangered" level pretty much equates to near-extinction).

Then the order would be 4132.

It's a fucked-up question, for sure, if those are the choices.

Congrats again on being OTC!

But, wasn't this night # 8?
WTG Nelly! If you had to get a history question, that would be the one to run into, the luck of the Irish.

I suspect Nelly was not able to play every night.
You were right. I was not able to play each night. I did not play on Friday or Sunday.

Q1: Sweet land of liberty

Q2: Put the following literary works in chronological order by when they were first published beginning with the earliest:

1. Because of Winn Dixie 2000
2. Black beauty 1877
3. Where the Wild Things Are 1963
4. Charlotte’s Web 1952

2-4-3-1

I thought I had fat-fingered this one and punched one of the numbers twice (I can be heard on my recording groaning), but somehow I managed to make it through a relatively easy Q2.

Q3: Put these US tourist attractions in geographical order from north to south starting with the northernmost :

1. Gateway Arch
2. The Astrodome
3. Graceland
4. Mount Rushmore

4-1-3-2

Easy Q3 and I’m onto Q4 for the first time since night #2.

Q4: Put these Space Shuttles in chronological order of their first orbits in space, starting with the earliest:

1. Discovery
2. Challenger
3. Atlantis
4. Columbia

4-2-1-3 is what I thought I had punched in, but I must have punched 4-2-3-1 and heard Sad Fred.

Last night was probably “my night”, I made it through Q2 when I thought I had FF’d and had relatively all easy Q’s. I’m not expecting to get another good batch in this go-around, maybe when they bring back the game in another 5 years…
