My questions:

Q1. Place these words in order to form a nickname

1. Star
2. Lone
3. The
4. State

Q2. Place these Roman numerals in order of their numerical value, from lowest to highest

1. M
2. X
3. L
4. C

Q3. Place these movies in order of their first theatrical release, starting with earliest

1. Big Mama's House
2. Lake House
3. Animal House
4. Home Alone

Q4. Place these literary works in alphabetic order by the last name of their author

1. Hamlet
2. The Da Vinci Code
3. 1984
4. The Shining

(for this one, for each literary work, as soon as I wrote down the name of the work, I immediately placed the initial of the author's last name next to it on my answer sheet. So, for example, I had "Hamlet . . . .S." Then it was easy to enter in the letters in alphabetical order)

Q5. Place these food events in order starting with the earliest.
(I cringed when I heard the category, but after a SWAG I was talking to Happy Fred!)

1. Miller introduces Lite beer
2. Julia Child makes first TV appearance
3. Million dollar winner in Pillsbury bake-off
4. Newman's Own founded

The answers:
[Reveal] Spoiler:
Q1. 3214
Q2. 2341
Q3. 3412
Q4. 2431
Q5. 2143 (I think)

Funny how last time we regularly played TOPG, Shania was the spring chicken and Taylor Swift was around 7 or 8 years old...

OMG, dream question. I might have WAGged your Twilight question (I tried it before looking at the answers and got it, but on the phone, who knows?) and might have tripped on one of the others, but this one I would have nailed. :)

No idea; checking a map later, it's 4-2-3-1

That one is really hard! I would have been . . . at sea on it. And then I would have been sure to have an atlas by my side when I called Fred the following night . . .

Took too slow on question 3 - not because I didn't know it, but because I'm a dumbarse.

Q1 - Put these words in order to name an alcoholic beverage

1. Long
2. Tea
3. Ice
4. Island

1432

Q2 - Put these U.S. Colleges and Universities in order from North to South

1. Kansas State University
2. Florida State University
3. Tuskegee
4. Univ. of Wisconsin

4132

Q3 - Put these TV shows in order of the time depicted, starting with the earliest

1. M*A*S*H
2. Space: 1999
3. The Waltons
4. Little House on the Prairie

4312

I was being too cautious and was marking my last digit when Fred came on and said, "Oh sorry Gramps, speed it up next time!"

That's a totally bogus question!

"Cane" is the source, not how refined it is. "Confectioner's" has smaller granules than regular sugar; it's not more refined!

By the way, is there a way to save this page to your computer with all the functionality of clicking spoiler space, etc., just in case this thread goes bye bye?

In other words, I hope there are no computer questions...

Refined is the wrong word. Processed would be accurate.

Even then, "cane" is the source, nothing more. C&H brand says it's, "Pure cane sugar from Hawaii." That could be regular, confectioner's or powdered.

I would guess they meant sugar cane (that is, not processed at all) instead of cane sugar

Oddly enough, the question that clinched me a spot on the show eight years ago was similar to E (drug store fixtures in the order of when they were invented, starting with the earliest).

Q1 - Arrange the geographic directions in the following names in clockwise order, starting at 12 O'Clock position:
1. Oliver North
2. somebody South...
3. somebody West...
4. Sheena Easton

After getting reacquainted with Sad Fred, I realized it would have been better to start with North than East. :x

My goodness but I'm rusty too. I blew Q2 and knew I had as soon as I pushed it in. Not a fat-finger, just a brain fart.

Q1 Put these words in order to make a 1969 Beatles Song:
1. the
2. comes
3. sun
4. here

4213

Q2 Put these books in order of published, starting with the earliest:
1. The Lovely Bones
2. Looking for Mr. Goodbar
3. Tuesdays with Morrie
4. Patriot Games

2431 (not 2413 which is what I punched in)
This should have been an easy question for me since I've read them all, shortly after each came out.

Better, but confectioner's is granulated, just smaller grains.

ChristieMartha hint of the day.

If you do not have confectioner's sugar, you can make it yourrself from granulated sugar by using your food processor.
