Transcript 12/21/2007 - Brad Jones (carryover contestant)

#1 Post by BBTranscriptTeam » Sat Dec 22, 2007 7:05 am

Brad Jones
Nashville, TN
Production designer

Brad likens Millionaire to a Greek drama where he's the hero. Meredith says that he valiantly fought his way to the $25K level. Brad is a theater nerd; he explains that Millionaire is like the hero who is on a quest, the questions are the tasks, the audience is the chorus and Meredith is the goddess who oversees the whole thing. Meredith thinks she might be the prankster because of the way she acted on the last question. His wife Stephanie, who is in the relationship seat, knew the answer and was trying to psychically convince Brad to go for it.

Brad has just earned the STQ lifeline.

$50K - Perhaps because the term "meteorology" was already taken, the study of meteors and meteorites is called what?

A - meteorollstry
B - meteroitics
C - meteoromics
D - meteorogeny

Brad says "meterogeny" but then decides to switch the question. The correct answer is not the one that Brad would have even considered.

$50K (STQ) - Jude Law has said that he was named after both a Beatles song and the title character of a novel by whom?

A - P.G. Wodehouse
B - Joseph Conrad
C - Robert Louis Stevenson
D - Thomas Hardy

Brad focuses on "Law" and guesses "B" as his final answer. He leaves with $25K.

ANSWERS:
$50K - B (meteoritics)
$50K (STQ) - D (Thomas Hardy)

50K: Not sure what A would mean, but pretty sure D would have to do with a meteor's children (?!). And that C would involve measurement. B is only one that sounds good anyway. Go for it while holding breath.

STQ 50K; Say its my 100K; EZ. Why did contestant focus on last name? Sigh.

I don't trust the scientists of the last hundred years to use any logic in their choice of subject names. Except for those who chose names to be meaningless. Or quote Buddhism or Joyce. STQ

Hey! An Obscure question. No, more accurately, it's an Obscure answer to a perfectly clear question.

if it's not "D" I am heading for the next Whiskey Bar

Brad focuses on "Law" and guesses "B" as his final
answer. He leaves with $25K.

That perfect source, Wikipedia, quotes (or at least translates) Aristotle as saying, of tragic heroes.

"The change to bad fortune which he undergoes is not due to any moral defect or flaw, but a mistake of some kind."[/n]

ANSWERS:
$50K - B (meteoritics)
$50K (STQ) - D (Thomas Hardy)

Absolutely no idea on this one, though I'd probably use the 50/50 to see what was left, hoping it wouldn't be A and B. If so, time to go for either PAF or STQ. Let's use STQ ad Brad did.

Too bad he fixated on the wrong name. "Jude the Obscure" isn't obscure enough that I haven't heard of it, but I suspect few people have actually read it.
