I am content. And upset.

#1 Post by gsabc » Sat Oct 17, 2009 3:52 am

WWTBAM: content with how things went. Tentative air date is Jan 19.

Upset: went from studio directly to NY Eye and Ear to look at my detached retina. WDW trip cancelled. Headed home. Repair operation planned for Tuesday.

I am incredibly angry and upset with TGTB (the gods that be) that this has become inextricably linked to my memories of what should have been a completely wondrous event.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

You must have done really well to earn such a most excellent date to have your show air. I am sorry that your trip to WDW had to ne cancelled. I'm sure the operation will be a complete success.

Congratulations on a "content" experience in the Hot Seat. Sorry about the detached retina causing another disruption to your WDW trip.

Was the detached retina bothering you during the taping?

Did you get to wear a cool-looking eyepatch?

Why is January 19 such a most excellent air date?

Is that the day your show aired?

I am so sorry about your retina!

How awesome that it waited until after your time in the hot seat to give you a whammy.

Your families appreciation for your obsession with the show was real and present. I loved that - they appreciated it, distinct from tolerating it. They were almost bursting with pride, even before you sat in the hot seat.

DO NOT LET THIS AFFECT YOUR THOUGHTS OF YOUR WWTBAM TIME!

You reached the Hot Seat!

You are content with your results.

Go to Disney next year.

And they can fix your vision.

There are so many good things with this, DO NOT let any bad cloud this!

Something about this Disney trip was ill-fated. You may never know what. TP(or G)TB were putting obstacles in your way so you did not go. More than once. Trust that your were not meant to go this time.

Yes, let's see it as "it could have been worse" point of view. Your eye was giving you hints that
things weren't going well, but at least it waited until after your taping to completely detach.

Take it easy this weekend and let us know how you're doing after the surgery. I'm very sorry about
your WDW trip and I know your wife is as well. Try and enjoy the good part now and the other good
part will come soon enough. (easy for me to say, huh?) :)

Well, I gotta say that from the other side of the fence, I see a win, win. You got to be in the hot seat fulfilling a years long dream and you got a medical issue that's being remedied. I'm afraid I don't see where anger, and especially incredible anger, comes into play here.

And Uncle Walt will gladly take your money next week, next month or next year.

We're home. We should be on Disney World property right now.

I will probably be able to think about the show by itself once I'm through the surgery and my vision is restored (I hope; the doctor said good things, but the way things are going ...). Right now, though, they're conjoined twins in my memory. I can't handle it just yet. I'll be back tomorrow or so.

Sounds like when the Patriots reach the Super Bowl and then Tom Brady needs surgery a week or two after the game :).

Hope you had a great time in NY before the eye problem happened!

OMG, Gordon! I'm glad you were closer to home and near a specialist eye hospital. I'm with DK. It seems as if the gods intervened in your favor. Get some rest. Anger will only make your eyes explode. I hope your surgery goes well.

Damn! Sounds like exactly what happened to me happened to you. The vitreous humor was attached only to the retina and pulled it from the back layer.

I am glad that you are good with your visit to the Hotseat and it is so much better that you were at NYC than down in Florida. You want that Disney experience to be a happy memory, and if you had your eye problem there, it would have been so much more difficult. It might have been harder for you to fly (would the pressure have been damaging) but you will be well soon and we'll be warming up the Tivo for 1/19, which seems to be an auspicious date all around.

No. They did not know of my eye problem. I went from the studio to the hotel to a clinic at a nearby Duane Reade to NY Eye and Ear's urgent care.
