You would think that with all the free time Frank had this holiday season, not having to repost this until the middle of January that he could at least have updated his intro.

If Uly was upset about losing to Idaho, imagine how he must have felt about losing to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl.

He probably saw how ES has turned out, and figured it would be worth it....

I was wondering about that, too.

Shouldn't this be getting reposted about 50 times in the weeks leading up to Christmas?

And no Dave, I still have not watched the original.....

What!?!?!?

Beast, beast, beast...I know you never go anywhere or do anything, but you've got to sit down and watch this movie. Really.

If I do that, then I'll probably have to watch A Christmas Story too......

lb13
No you won't.

I never managed to get through A Christmas Story but have seen IAWL many times.

We turned on Christmas Story at our host's house after Christmas Dinner. We helped our hostess appreciate some of the better jokes.

YOU'LL SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT, KID!

That wasn't one of 'em.

I loathe both of these movies.

It's A Wonderful Life means well, and does finally get there, but the journey is SO DAMN DARK.

A Christmas Story is just irritating. To me.

I know it kills some people, but the only "Christmas" movie I can watch over and over is ... you guessed it ... Love, Actually. The music makes me cry, and I am not a crier, plus the idea that there are all kinds of love is just truly Platonic, like really soulmate-Plato-wrote-it stuff. One of the deepest loves in the story is of a sister for her brother.

It's not for everyone. I get it. But there is not much better dialogue than this exchange in a story I don't even like that much:

"You learned English."
"Just in cases."

Oh, Lord. I just read a synopsis of A Christmas Story and it's worse than I remembered. So many story lines are depressing. I think it probably worked very well in the source material, as vignettes published in the 60s. But this movie is indescribably depressing to me.

It's not at all fair of me to criticize anyone else's sense of humor, but the idea that anyone finds it funny that kids get their tongues stuck to the frozen flagpole is just deeply sad to me. Because they are going to have to rip them off and bleed and be hurting. Argh. It's like when CNN goes to commercial here at work and we all yell "Don't look until I change the channel!!!" because it's the shaking dogs and weeping kitties in cages in the SPCA ad. We protect each other, and why can't we do that from this movie?

"Don't look!" is all I'm saying.

SteelersFan and I don't even need to watch Christmas -- we can recreate entire scenes from memory. "It was . . . soap poisoning." "I told you not to use Lifebuoy!"

It's a Wonderful Life, not so much. I've never watched it all the way through.

All best wishes to all y'all for the new year.
