ES's Top 13 Avatars of 2009

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Sat Dec 19, 2009 7:48 am

I decided to spend the final 13 days of the year counting down my favorite ES inspired avatars of the year. For the record, these are avatars I used for my account.... not the tattoos, portraits, or other artwork of mine that others have used for avatars.

In all, I have now had 98 hand-drawn avatars.... 93 of which debuted this year as I began my sometimes daily rotation of avatars this past Spring. It was really hard to pare it down to just 13, since I am quite fond of about half of them..... but I was able to do it. Quality, BB reaction, and significance played a huge factor in determining which made the cut and where they were ranked.....

Starting today, I'll post my 13th favorite avatar, followed by the 12th tomorrow, and so on until my favorite is revealed on New Years Eve. All new entries will be posted in this thread, and each avatar will be used by me for that day, and be included in the post itself for posterity....

#13 is coming up momentarily.....

#13: "ES and Uly"

Debuted: 10/17/09

Image

The only one of uly's avatars I ever modified, I took his picture of himself with Peter Noone and drew ES over the singer for Herman's Hermits. Uly just looks so happy to be posed with his friend ES. As I recall, the man of many gratuitous words had nothing to say about this one.... perhaps because he was pissed I hijacked one of his avatars, or maybe because the mere sight of it rendered him speechless. Either way, I was quite happy with my work on this one, and I think it was also well-liked by the Bored. And just look at how happy uly and ES are in that picture.... I mean just look at them! Bestest of buddies!

Yay, I love countdowns!! (I'm watching the VH1 Top Forty Countdown as I speak....)

When I read the first post, I thought, "man, I hope instead of just a different avatar each day we get some commentary about the inspiration, reception and general comments'. Then I saw the second post. I should have known that somebody who not only puts up with my game commentary but actually looks forward to it wouldn't leave us hanging as to the whys and whatfors.....ha!

And I'm such a dork that I'll probably spend odd moments over the next couple of days trying to decide which ones are going to be making the cut and what will be #1. Well, I immediately thought of which one should be #1 (I've made my choice).

Do you want commentary on your choices or just admiration from afar? And is that a stupid question? Ha!

You're asking if he wants commentary??? Since when do we need permission??

I am also going to try and guess which ones make it.

Too funny about whether or not we can comment. Of course we will/should!

#12: "Perkitude!"

Debuted: 6/30/09

Image

One of my favorite avatars from the Hooly era celebrated the Bored's catchphrase of the summer that took us into the phone game revival and brief renaissance of Prime Time BAM..... perkitude. This is one I know I went back to on several occasions over the next couple months, including when Hooly went to her DoND audition. It perfectly captures the essence of the word.... from the confident look on her face to the thumbs up gesture. But what truly makes it one of my favorites is the font I picked for "Perkitude". I can't even remember what that font was called, but it should be renamed the Perkitude font.....

Me too, except I dunno if it should be #1 or not, I just think it will be. The only thing that will dissuade me is if it shows up sooner than #1.

#11: "Rally Squirrels!!!!11"

Debuted: 4/24/09

Image

After discussing in chat 2 nights before about the lady at Busch Stadium I had seats next to who brought a rally squirrel to the game, I decided to jump on Fanny's NUGGETS!!!!11 bandwagon and turn ES and MBRS into rally squirrels just in time for their opening playoff series against the Charlot.... er, New Orleans Hornets. This is the original rally squirrels avatar, featuring ES stepping on the Hornets mascot. As the NUGGETS!!!!11 progressed through the playoffs, I erased the hornet and added something else associated with each team. For the Mavericks, it was ES's rendering of their jackass owner...

Image

And for the Lakers, it was..... well, it was a lame ass palm tree....

Image

Which is probably part of the reason they lost to the Lakers. Oh well, they shall return again next April looking for more exposure, especially since they didn't get much when they donned their Rockies purple and black....

I can't believe that I totally forgot about the Rally Squirrels!!1 It seems like so long ago..... Hopefully this year the last one in the series will be stepping on Superman or a leprechaun. Ha! You're still on the bandwagon, right? (Kiki and Clem are keeping your seat warm....)

Btw, I still call the Bobcats the Hornets and New Orleans Charlotte. I was just bitching to my mom today about those stupid alternate road unis that they need to ceremonially BURN and said that they also wore them for the Charlotte game and wasn't two in a row enough? Then my Mom asked if they'd worn them for the Hornets game as well. MOM! you know when I say Charlotte I mean New Orleans! Hell, what does she expect, I still call the team in Washington the Bullets....

#10: "Snow Angel"

Debuted: 12/9/09

Image

2 months ago a new character was brought into the world of ES, inspired by a picture of an albino squirrel sent to Rexer by his sister. After drawing a sketch of the new character, I turned to the Bored for a name for her.... and Saucy was spot on in calling her Angel. The perfect compliment to the more fiery and... ummm.... slutty MBRS, Angel has appeared in a lot of my drawings now, and this was her first and thus far only solo avatar. It was so cute, I kept it up for nearly a week earlier this month. And I have to give Fanny credit for inspiring this particular avatar, though as a suggestion for an earlier alteration of a Matias avatar. Angel's work was lost in the background of that picture, but she cracks my top ten with this main stage fun in the snow.....

Oh what fun!!! Of course I have my pick for #1. We'll have to wait and see.

I have to say, I love when ES shows up with actual humans like Uly and Baby Sprots. Reminds me of Gene Kelly and Jerry Mouse. Very funny.

When and if they show up before #1, I'll alert the media and release a statement. I'm not sure if it will be apparent which ones will be there when it gets into the short list because there are only about 5865045033 of them and I'm not on the board every day (sometimes not for several days) and I'm sure I've missed a lot of them. And forgotten even more..... ha!
