"Pathetic Contestants"

#1 Post by ontellen » Sat Jan 30, 2010 5:07 pm

So sorry about that comment. I had no idea there were contestants here who had been on last week. Lovey, I totally get. She had octopus on her mind and saw owl and mispoke.

It's lately been more about the horrible choices of ATE and the mismanaged lifelines.

If I ever had a chance to be on the show, maybe I would understand, but Canadians are not welcome. I don't feel welcome here anymore either.

Thanks to all my former Jipter friends from 10 years ago. It was great.

Buh bye.

Ellen

I'm not sure why she thinks she has to leave, but she made a comment in a contestant thread, and one of the contestants (bigpapi) saw it and commented on it.

But we've all made comments we regret- no reason to leave, ellen!

Don't leave Ellen! I certainly have never made any comments that ruffle feathers...

Stay.

Ellen, I didn't mean to alienate you so badly that you felt you have to leave.

I was not pleased with the comment you made, as I thought it was unfair to say the least. I responded, in truth, in a sarcastic, albeit frankly restrained manner. I figured you'd take it for the mild rebuke/needle that it was. Again, there was no intent on my part to make anything more of it than that.

So please do not leave.

Peace,

Kevin

Too bad, Ellen, I'm hoping it is just a temporary show of frustration and we will keep in touch in some manner in the future. I was wondering if it is more that you are fed up with the show and its changes than anything else.

I beg to differ on that. Your use of the PAF was flawless... I might even say inspired.

Please don't leave, Ellen. If I had a nickel for everytime I "left" this bored (or any other incarnation of it) for someone pissing me off, I would be a rich man. People say what they say and do what they do, that does not mean that you are still not a vital part of this community.

Please stay. Please.

Love ya,

Ellen,

I sincerely hope it wasn't my response that made you feel uncomfortable here. I did highlight the pathetic comment and I felt I had to respond. I hope you didn't view that as an attack, I really do feel that the recent batch of contestants (both BBers and non-BBer's) have been quite good. On another thread I posted a long response as to why I think the current $ level of winnings is not indicitive of the players that have been on, but instead of how TPTB have changed te games. I would venture to guess that if you took all the players that have ever been on (both PT and Syndi) and randomly rearranged them over all the seasons, that the season results would not be all that different. This is just my opinion, of course, and I hope no one is offended by it.

I just figured out I might be Canadian.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

While I didn't agree with what you said, I find attacks on individual contestants like Chris Carrion to be far more distasteful. Your comment really wasn't that big a deal.

Yes! However I mismanaged the other five lifelines I got through non-use or misuse.

I missed this before.

You really think that someone saying a particular contestant was over the top with his enthusiasm is "more distasteful" than branding a group of people "pathetic contestants"- just because one was specifically aimed and one was general?

I swear, this is the only place where someone can say something completely nasty, get called out for it, then somehow have people apologizing to her, rather than profusely apologizing to the person/people who had to read the nasty comments in the first place. I love it, I really do.

You said something mean, people reacted. Either apologize and move on, or if you don't think you did anything wrong, just move on. But don't turn it into a "woe is me, I'm so wronged" spectacle. Seriously.

I didn't see anything particularly nasty in her post, or the one that supposedly ran her off.

Of course, my skin is pretty thick, but still.

Getting on a game show is a dream for a lot of people. Most who post on this board. When selected you'd expect the players to bone up on the game play. It is obvious so many on the daily "millionaire" show just show up. I'll agree that a lot of the contestants' game play is pathetic. Not saying they are pathetic people, but yes, they were pathetic contestants, that day.

And if a simple "uh, I am one of the pathetic contestants." is all it took to run someone off, well, they are pathetic internet posters. At least for the day they decided to run away.

There's one thing about all of this that no one has mentioned yet. Since no one knows who is lurking here and who isn't, any comment posted here should be done under the assumption that the subject is here. If you wouldn't say what you're posting when the subject is here, perhaps it shouldn't be said, at all...

No one's apologizing to Ellen- just saying her comment doesn't mean she has to leave the Bored.

I read bigpapi's and frogman's posts to have an apologetic tone, one that I think is unnecessary. That's all.

Apologetic? Or gracious in noticing and accepting the apology with which ontellen began this thread?
