Today's episode (4/14) No spoiler

#1 Post by Phil Ken Sebbin » Wed Apr 14, 2010 11:19 am

I have enjoyed him as host so far even with the few number of questions he gets to per episode. The look on his face when Peppy asked for the ATE yesterday was priceless. But he butchered an option today so badly it would make Regis blush. He pronounced cylindrical line as 'chill-en-drik-al and I would've had a hard time keeping a straight face in the hot seat. I am actually surprised that made it to air because during my taping Meredith redubbed a few flubbed lines.

And as I was typing this they asked
Spoiler
Who is Herve Villechaize?
and by the time he finished trying to say the name, joke with the audience and read the options, ther was only 11 seconds left out of 30.

I am beginning to rethink my original thesis. I like Steve as a comedian and as a host but he is a wrong fit for this type of show where time is of the essence. He will probably do well on Family Feud when he replaces John O'Hurley.

I'm glad they told us Steve is a comic because I'd not know from watching him. :P

The APs haven't really explained TDC to Steve.

But they probably thought he was a laugh riot, so what do they care?

I enjoyed him overall as host, but yes his hosting ability is not made for this type of Millionaire with TDC. I think he would have been a great sub for Regis or Meredith during the old days when they didn't have the clock but with the way he reads, he's caused a couple of close calls. I think FF will be a world of difference.

Alas, no.

Steve Harvey is practicing his game show hosting on SyndieBAM before taking over as host on Family Feud.

They could fix all of this by simply and fairly not starting the clock until after the all of the choices are given. They could do it without even announcing the change.

I know some will suggest they can fix it by ditching the clock, but I don't think they will turn back.

There was clearly a technical snafu on yesterday's show. Even with the current rules for TDC, the clock isn't supposed to start until the host begins reading the choices. Steve flubbed his pronunciation while reading the question, then seemed to get into a discussion with the voice in his earphone about what to do; meanwhile, the clock had already started counting and had ticked away 10 seconds before he started to read them.

Since the choices were being displayed, it wasn't a problem, as long as the contestant could tune all that out...

I would've saved everyone a lot of pain by just interrupting and answering the question as soon as the choices popped up. Unfortunately, the contestant didn't know so that wasn't an option for him.
