That ramp serves a very important purpose, if a truck has a brake failure going downhill. I think there ought to be more of an up-slope than there appears to be in that picture, for the ramp to do its job, though.

I think the point is that the truck would just keep going in this picture. Maybe it is giving the truckdriver a chance to jump out as it accelerates down hill. And then off the end of the ski jump.

Or they can have the nets on them that stop the trucks, like the one they just built sort of near my house...it's not even an uphill incline at all, the nets supposedly stop the trucks.

The "pavement" that you see on the ramp is actually a deep layer of gravel. The truck will sink axle deep and slow down evenly as it tries to push through the gravel.

Some people in West Virginia might actually consider Cracker Barrel an attraction. (I recognize the state route sign design as that of West Virginia's, and I can also tell you that this picture was taken in Morgantown.)

Some people here in Kentucky certainly consider Cracker Barrel an attraction. I don't see why. I've eaten at a Cracker Barrel once before, many years ago. The food sucked.
