There's nothing wrong with the d. There is an extra e. In news stories about the recent accidental death of the owner of the corporation, the vehicle is spelled Sedgway.Bob Juch wrote:Why the "d"?littlebeast13 wrote:This was one of several past requests I finally got around to honoring.....

Then those news articles were wrong, too. It's Segway.silvercamaro wrote:There's nothing wrong with the d. There is an extra e. That may be true. Is it possible that the name was changed (simplified) since the first unveiling of the device by its inventor?

Well, it was codenamed "Ginger" before it was officially unveiled. During that time it was also referred to as "IT". But Segway (to rhyme with "Segue") has always been the official spelling.silvercamaro wrote:That may be true. Re: If ES has bought a new toy...
I just read the corporate history, without finding any indication that the name ever had a "d" or ever was pronounced any differently than "segue." I surrender. I still wonder how the misspelling became somewhat common. I am not demanding an answer, but I wonder.silvercamaro wrote:That may be true. Oh, littlebeast! I see your avatar has someone in a blue dress with a white cap and glasses. Is that me? I hope so. I have dreamed about riding on one of those contraptions! How did you know that? If I had the chance, I would fly like a bird, just like the creature in your picture! I don't think I should drive one, since it's motorized, but I would be permitted to ride on one if somebody else drove. Are they big enough for two people? Has anybody here ever ridden on one? Would you tell me about it? Would you teach me how to do it? I'm excited! Now I have daydreams enough to last me for months.littlebeast13 wrote:This was one of several past requests I finally got around to honoring.....

I rode on one last year, at Mr. Disney's World. If you visit there, they could teach you to ride one, too. I'm afraid they don't make them big enough for two (getting two people to balance together on one, while the machine is trying to balance with you, could be a challenge!) so you'd have to drive yourself, though. And they'd want you to wear a safety helmet, but that would probably fit over your bonnet.Emily Rumspringa wrote:Oh, littlebeast! You are my new hero, Marley! I am so pleased to know, sort of, somebody who has ridden a Segway. As I said, I don't think I should drive one myself. If I went to Disney when you were there, could I climb on your back or sit on your shoulders or something?MarleysGh0st wrote:I rode on one last year, at Mr. Disney's World. When I get back home from town, I'm going to unhitch my horse Helmut from the carriage and ride on his back with my arms straight out. Helmut will be so surprised!

I've ridden them several times. I think I could have you sit on the steering handle just fine. I promise not to ride near any cliffs.

Oh, thank you, Ulysses. I will take you up on that kind offer at the first possible opportunity! This will be so much fun! Afterward, I will treat you to lunch or a nice glass of cider, and I will send you some of my jams and jellies.ulysses5019 wrote:Emily Rumspringa wrote:Oh, littlebeast!
