Don't Rain on My Parade

#1 Post by Ritterskoop » Mon Feb 14, 2011 12:36 am

I have been on a quest since last May's Glee finale, to get lyrics from "Don't Rain on My Parade" into sports headlines.

Not as easy as you'd think. "The sun's a ball of butter" could work with many weather stories, and even "a freckle on the nose of life's complexion" could be shoehorned into a health story about acne. But sports is harder, though Jule Styne built in: "And if I'm fanned out, your turn at bat, sir. At least I didn't fake it." I will save that one for a baseball story this summer.

Last NASCAR season, I had someone doing well in a race but not winning "the whole shebang".

Then we had a picture of race fans waiting for the rain to pass, with the overline: Don't Bring Around a Cloud.

Monday morning we have a column about Kobe and the Lakers coming to town, and how he could pass more and not go straight for the basket so much.

Don't tell Kobe not to fly
- he's simply got to
If you fail to pilot your own ship, don't be surprised at what inappropriate port you find yourself docked. - Tom Robbins
--------
At the moment of commitment, the universe conspires to assist you. - attributed to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Okay.

Can't make the same guarantee for ShinyCar, though. Though I'll try my best.

Disclaimer: The avatar is not for my game; in fact it is nowhere near OKC.

Good job!

I googled it and read the story -- it was perfect.

Thanks!

This mornign I was the senior judge at The Observer's regional spelling bee - the winner goes to Washington. Turned out it was the same kid who won last year.

We did not screw up anything. Once I affected the outcome in a positive way, and once I told a speller her attempt is how I thought the word should be spelled (zoanthropy should have a double o, I think, and so did she). She was playing for second or third place by then, and ended up second anyway. The other time, the pronouncer was giving an extra little partial syllable in plasmalemma, and I asked him to skip the word. We were in that second-third place part of the game, so it was not a big deal.

Now, a nap before work.

At the adult charity spelling bee this year, we went out on caesura and croute.

We'll get 'em next year.
