Well, at least she knew in advance that she was a member of the geo nitwit club and had the good sense to get a PAF that did know some geography. She gets points for that. Even if it did cost EVERY SINGLE LIFELINE.

Can't really expect the audience to be any less geo nitwitish but the 50/50 certainly wasn't very helpful either. I suppose if one was going to be confused those are the two choices geo nitwitish people would be confused about.

I'm sure tanstaafl will make a comment about geo nitwits. However in Karyn's defense my wife, who took geography in college, opted for the wrong answer. I was sure it was "East Indes" because of the Dutch East India Company.

Unfortunately I'd have been gone on this one without using a lifeline. I was sure it was Proust, based on "Remembrance of Things Past". Sometimes knowing too much can be a problem; evidently Karyn never even considered Proust as a possibility. Had I used 50/50, it probably would have left B and D and I'd still have missed it.

i was always under the impression that the 50/50 was designed to leave the 2 most likely answers..

That is how they did it on the primetime show. On the syndicated version, the computer is supposed to select randomly. Meredith repeats this time and time again, but nobody believes her, perhaps because she's only giving hearsay evidence.

$500: I'd assume they want the exercise I know nothing about, crunches, but this it too early a level to leave. And I'd like to save 50/50 for a harder Q. ATA

25K: Like the contestant, I thought from the phrasing we could be talking Freud, but I do not know this poem. I'd PAF here. If I'd been in the contestant's shoes, lifelineless, I'd be going home with my 16K. She certainly has the guts to get the glory, as I don't think she was any surer than I would have been.
