It was mentioned on the local news in SoCal when the rings were presented to the team.
A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.

Would folks who don't follow the Jason of Beverly Hills website have read about this on the sports pages, then?
Do they expect people to wear these rings or are they just for show? It seems like leather pressed against sweaty skin would provide a good breeding ground for various nasty organisms.
