And a fine article from Phil Plaitt on his Bad Astronomy blog:

Rising Tempertures
Jim River, AK closed in on the all time record coldest temperature of -80°F set in 1971, which is not only the Alaska all-time record, but the record for the entire United States. Unfortunately, it seems the battery died in the weather station just at the critical moment.
they blame Murphy, but Uday would not do that.

While the disparity of forces puts the financial interests and media support firmly in the alarmist camp, the sceptics have some obvious strengths. The first and most obvious is an eye to detail and meticulous picking apart of data among a sizeable camp of sceptics. They are used to poring over data, of looking behind the obvious and of teasing things out of the most unlikely sources. These skills are highly prized in sceptic circles - just as they used to be prized in scientific circles. We see this at work not just in the deconstruction of the hockey stick, but in the way that the IPCC reports were dissected and the references checked (and often found to be from non-peer reviewed literature), or the BEST temperature record found to be at odds with what Richard Muller was claiming it said or... Again and again the sceptic camp shows itself to be worthy of the name. Nothing is taken on trust, everything is challenged and the data checked.

In Gleick's case this process happened very quickly. The allegedly forged document was checked and found to have come from a different source and different time zone. The writing style was shown to be different to the other documents. And, taking things a step further, a number of voices suggested it was Peter Gleick very early on.

This is the sceptic blogosphere at work - and it shows why, despite the disparity of money and media, the alarmists know they are losing. It's just ironic that Gleick fell victim to the very thing that his paranoid fantasy ignores.

So he used a fake name to obtain documents from an institute that would not have given them to him had he used his real name...and that automatically makes his findings false?

How about the Heartland Institute prove the documents he got were faked or altered first?

Talk about a game of three-card monte!

PS Sorry- didn't see TMITSSS's latest post- I will read it now.

Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard has announced she will be repealing Australia’s $23 per tonne Carbon Tax, which was due to be implemented on 1 July 2012.

She said it was embarrassing trying to defend her climate change advisors whose predictions kept failing. “It’s one thing when experts make predictions and they are slightly wrong,” she said “but when the complete opposite happens, then there is something drastically wrong.  It’s clear to me now that the sun drives climate change. The Carbon Tax will therefore not be implemented on 1 July.”

James Lovelock, the maverick scientist who became a guru to the environmental movement with his “Gaia” theory of the Earth as a single organism, has admitted to being “alarmist” about climate change and says other environmental commentators, such as Al Gore, were too.

Lovelock, 92, is writing a new book in which he will say climate change is still happening, but not as quickly as he once feared.
It will also reflect his new opinion that global warming has not occurred as he had expected.

“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.

“The climate is doing its usual tricks. There’s nothing much really happening yet. We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now,” he said.

“The world has not warmed up very much since the millennium. Twelve years is a reasonable time… it (the temperature) has stayed almost constant, whereas it should have been rising -- carbon dioxide is rising, no question about that,” he added.

He pointed to Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and Tim Flannery’s “The Weather Makers” as other examples of “alarmist” forecasts of the future.

Former climate-change skeptic Richard Muller analyzes the data and confirms his conclusion that global warming is real and that prior estimates of the rate of warming were correct. He now concludes, "Humans are almost entirely the cause."

He reaches this conclusion by showing a very close correlation between measured temperature and measured levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide. He found that the data does not support the claim that climate variation is due to variations in solar activity. Importantly, his conclusion does not depend on complex global climate models.

Professor Muller's conclusions can be found in five scientific papers posted here. --Bob

"Poor Bill McKibben - he's been trying to get something to melt for ages but it keeps backfiring," Senator Inhofe said. "These alarmists never learn their lesson. Remember Bill McKibben was the one who was going to melt a giant ice sculpture in the shape of the word ‘hoax' on the national mall, but his group had to cancel because there wasn't enough interest. Now, after proclaiming that street lights in Oklahoma are melting because of global warming, we have confirmation that a fire caused this scene.

"Amid the resurgence of hysteria from my friends on the left, I appreciated climatologist Dr. John Christy who testified this week before the Environment and Public Works committee saying that instead of proclaiming this summer is ‘what global warming looks like' it is ‘scientifically more accurate to say that this is what Mother Nature looks like, since events even worse than these have happened in the past before greenhouse gases were increasing like they are today.'

"This isn't the first time
alarmists have tried these stunts and it certainly won't be the last - when will they finally realize they've lost this debate?"

Al Gore isn’t pleased that President Obama and Mitt Romney are steering clear of climate change on the stump despite record-setting heat and extreme drought.

The former vice president expressed his displeasure via Web link, steering readers of his blog to a Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists column titled “Conspiracy of silence: The irresponsible politics of climate change.”

“In a summer dominated by heat waves and a devastating nationwide drought, it would seem that climate change would be a major issue in the US presidential campaign. However, quite the opposite is happening. Neither President Barack Obama nor the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney, has focused any attention on this critical issue,” states the Bulletin column, which Gore calls “important.”

Hey, Dimmzy. This doesn't have anything to do with global warming or hysteria, but I wanted to let you know that every time I look at your avatar, it makes me smile.
