#251. "Gangster Squirrel"

Debuted: 5/4/11

Buffacuse posted a mafia name generator, and mini kindly provided her own mob name for me, so I got ES involved to intimidate her, and maybe put Rainbow Donkey's head on her pillow. This was the avatar I drew for the occasion, of ES doing his best ganster impersonation. The inspiration thread is a classic, as Sprots originally complimented the avatar, but apparently later had second thoughts. Her original response was recorded by both me and jeemie in our replies before she could change it though.... nice try Sprotsie Baby! We know you love the ES avatars...

#252. "Oompah Squirrel"

Debuted: 5/6/11

Tubadave drove by for just long enough to post that May 6th was International Tuba Day. I quickly put together this avatar in celebration. The avatar is merely a cropped version of the portrait I did for Dave back in October 2008, where ES is sitting in the lower left corner blowing away on the tuba, which is why the avatar looks so dated.

#253. "Maid To Order"

Debuted: 5/7/11

This was my birthday avatar for Fanny this year, and the subject of the avatar was somewhat of a behind the scenes joke between us. But MBRS is paying Fanny back for her treasonous behavior in this year's version of the Rally Squirrels avatar with a little hard scrubbing. Meanwhile, the Queen and her princess are enjoying a little birthday cake, and oblivious to any crumbs that may be getting on the freshly cleaned floor.

#254. "Combat!"

Debuted: 5/9/11

Lizbit began having a yearning for becoming a soldier dog, and when she posted about it on the Bored, I drew up this cute little avatar of her and ES in the heat of battle. ES looks very Arte Johnsonish pushing back the tall grass, while Lizbit does her best Rambo impersonation to scare the enemy. We're not so sure these two would have made it through even war games without being captured, but we should still thank this brave dog and squirrel for defending our freedom from whatever evil government that helicopter belongs to.

#255. "Dick in a Box"

Debuted: 5/14/11

Weyoun was traveling to Iceland and wanted some suggestions from people who'd been there on what to see. Having no experience on matters never stops BobJuch from posting his suggestions, and he mentioned a tidbit from News of the Weird about a penis museum in Husavik, Iceland. That was the intro I finally needed to draw this avatar, which had been suggested to me several months before in chat. The scene is of course a play on the "Dick in a Box" routine from Saturday Night Live, set in a movie theater. While MBRS seems quite pleased with ES's creativity, Angel is not only not quite clear on this concept, but would probably rather stay in the dark about it.

#256. "Possum Break"

Debuted: 5/16/11

This avatar was lifted from something I made for Holly's birthday, and uploaded for her birthday thread. It features her nemesis the possum (Who was given the name Buster when I asked her to name the little guy) attempting to break out of his cell. Isn't he cute?

#257. "The End of the World As We Know It"

Debuted: 5/20/11

This avatar was made to poke fun at the latest end of the world prediction, which was supposed to result in a "worldwide earthquake" on the evening of May 21st. It features ES the mad prophet and MBRS the former non-believer, and a bunch of smoke in the background. The post I introduced this avatar with even got a gus, #380000.

#258. "Angel in Wonderland"

Debuted: 5/23/11

This avatar was culled from a transcript thread, with a question asking what character Johnny Depp played in the Alice in Wonderland movie. ES as the Mad Hatter and Angel as innocent Alice may seem cute and quirky, but this avatar didn't even survive the day, making it no Sunmaid Angel, the only previous avatar to be inspired from the transcripts.

#259. "Rain Dance"

Debuted: 5/23/11

Beebs needing a boost of confidence for her upcoming Jeopardy audition, and an offhand comment I made about her using her toenail paint on her face, all combined with the drought-like conditions Houston has been experiencing all year led to this avatar being created while I was attempting to entertain Beebs in chat that evening. Beebs is all painted up for a rain dance, with Injun ES by her side to help provide the beat. I was in such a rush to finish it before work that I forgot to add the toenail polish to her feet! Even worse, this avatar didn't seem to help bring more than a trickle of rain to the parched area.

#260. "Fallout Shelter"

Debuted: 5/25/11

As part of the Spring storm season from Hell, a tornado ripped through the Oklahoma City area. To help ease the tension, I created this avatar of ES and Lizbit hunkered down under several mattresses, with Hello Kitty and motocross helmets equipped. The Fallout Shelter sign, which I included as a gag and which I copied from an image I found on Google, turned out to have the triangles transposed, proving my artistic dyslexia. It is the first time ES has needed the use of a fallout shelter without first receiving a threat from Sprots.

#261. "BeBe's Initiation"

Debuted: 5/27/11

Sliver welcomed a new greyhound into her house named BeBe, and Lizbit gained a sister to mentor. From this avatar, we hope that the first thing Lizbit taught her was to watch out for the apple throwing ES. This avatar celebrating BeBe's new home was done from the perspective of peering over ES's shoulder, which made for some goofy images. There seemed to be a bit of confusion over what exactly that red thing was at the top of the avatar. Of course, it's the apple ES is tossing up and down as he prepares to line up his new target.

Characters: ES, Lizbit, BeBe

#262. "Cupcake Hands"

Debuted: 5/30/11

Sliver mentioned to me in chat that BeBe had "cupcake hands", terminology from Toddlers & Tiaras meaning holding out hands with curved fingers. I took a different spin on that phrase to create this avatar I uploaded the next day, showing BeBe actually making use of her cupcake hands. And there's ES's apple he threw.... wide of the target, as usual.

#263. "Waterskiing"

Debuted: 6/2/11

Calvinator posted about a case he took up in private practice pertaining to some neighbors fighting over the right to waterski on a lake in their neighborhood. The idea of ES waterskiing on my ever-flooded ditch out back was hatched in chat with Sprots, and this avatar of him and MBRS having some fun was born. Having the neighbor in the house look on in anger was an afterthought I added at the last minute, which is why it is so small and hard to see.... but since it was my ditch, I used myself to give ES the glare for ruining the peace and tranquility of the neighborhood.

#264. "Supermarket Sweep"

Debuted: 6/8/11

Earendel's top o the morning post dealt with his adventures at the supermarket, and it eventually led to Estonut posting about the freezers and coolers at his Target store, which have lights that work on a sensor that can tell when a customer walks by, meaning the lights stay off when nobody is around. He mentioned this created a "Billie Jean" effect as one walked down the aisle, and that spurred this avatar of l'il ones Blaze and Sulphur racing down the cooler aisle with a shopping cart triggering the lights as they went by.

#265. "Wheeeeeee!!!!!"

Debuted: 6/12/11

Ranked 14th in the 2011 ES Avatar Countdown

I noticed a trend of high school and college age kids coming into my department late in the evenings and buying handfuls of the cheap toilet paper, obviously using it for TP'ing purposes, and asked the Bored if this was a hot fad again, as I don't recall seeing it happen often at all in the past decade. I accompanied that thread with this avatar, a picture inspired by a night of chat between me and Fanny not long before this, and how if I kept the toilet paper roll hanging from the back, it would prevent my cats from unrolling it, and I could leave the door open. I told her she obviously underestimated the late Spilly's desire to wreak havoc, because he would surely grab it in his mouth and go running through the house with it. "Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!" was Fanny's reply. This avatar is such a great tribute to my beloved Spilly Boy, though I'm sure ES didn't think he'd be shown on the throne in two avatars this year already.

#266. "Glaring For Heels"

Debuted: 6/14/11

Heels made his 1000th post a celebratory one, and mentioned that maybe now he would get that long-coveted ES avatar he'd only been campaigning for since his 8th ever post. I took time out during the evening to whip this up on my laptop, showing the girls putting the pressure on ES to finally reward the long-suffering heels, his biggest fan he has yet to incorporate into his artwork. The glares from MBRS and even the normally sweet Angel may have been pretty intimidating, but still no dice on the heels avatar. At least not yet....

#267. "Heartbreaker"

Debuted: 6/17/11

Ranked 5th in the 2011 ES Avatar Countdown

While it may not seem like it sometimes with all the graphic garbage I foist on the Bored, there are times I draw things which aren't necessarily meant for Bored consumption. Many of those revolve around the theme of this avatar. Of the many constant reminders, one pierced particularly deep one day, and I felt compelled to draw this little pick of Hooly ripping the heart out of poor ES. In my head, it was meant to look much more graphic and horrifying, but it came out looking more comical than anything, and drew a much needed laugh from me. The next day, I even found an opening to work it in as my avatar, playing off her leaving the Bored. While it went largely unnoticed the first day I had it up, Pea (as she's accustom to doing) started up her own thread about it, and it kind of devolved down a path of pity I didn't want nor was seeking. After briefly switching it back to my previous avatar upon seeing this fallout, I reversed that decision the next morning and put it back up for no other reason than the fact that I still loved this avatar and it still makes me laugh to look at it.

#268. "Water for Beebs!"

Debuted: 6/20/11

Ranked 16th in the 2011 ES Avatar Countdown

I tried to do a load of wash on this morning, and was horrified to discover that my washer decided to quit draining. With nobody else to turn to at that time, I posted on the Bored asking for solutions to get the water out of my washer and rescue my clothes. BiT recommended siphoning it out, and BobJuch came up with the odd but practical solution that actually worked. But what to do with all that siphoned water.... hey! Beebs has complained about the drought in Houston. I drew this up showing how much ES cares about getting much needed H2O to those who need it the most. Neither Beebs nor the sunbaked Merv seem to be too impressed with ES's resourcefulness.

#269. "Casey Joins the Fight"

Debuted: 6/25/11

Still with no fresh Matias avatars on the year, I decided to hijack the avatar Sprots had been using for the last two months to get her dog Casey in on the campaign to bring back the Matias avatars. This one didn't draw too much notice and only lasted a weekend... and more importantly, it still didn't work.

#270. "Go Sit In the Corner, Dumbass!"

Debuted: 6/27/11

On the first day of Krox's summer run of Lyrically Sp(e)aking, I attempted to reply to one of Esto's gag answers he gave concerning my washer, but accidentally hit the Edit button instead of the Quote (Allegedly, I still think I hit the right button most of the times this happens), and the result was that I wound up replacing all of Esto's answers with my reply, wiping out his game. Though I made every effort to own up to my mistake and apologize for it, I still knew I was going to face the "wrath" of Esto for it, and upon his ensuring the entire Bored that I was a dumbass, I left no doubt by changing my long-standing title of "Studmuffin" to "Dumbass" and adding this avatar of ES in the corner with a dunce cap. He looks pretty sad and pathetic, but not as pathetic as his predecessor on the stool.

#271. "Eight Plus Two"

Debuted: 6/30/11

In celebration of my ten years of doing the rankings, and helping Vandal plug his upcoming game "Ten", I had this avatar accompany the 10th anniversary version of the rankings. It shows why ES can't plug the game on his own, as he needs some help from MBRS to count that high. Why do all of ES's characters only have four digits to a paw? Because they just do, that's why.....

#272. "Stop! Thief!"

Debuted: 7/2/11

I posted of a daring thief who snuck into my store while my crew was on lunch break through a side entrance, crossed the length of the store to steal a TV from Electronics, crossed all the way back pushing that TV, and only while he was trying to escape did anyone notice. In bringing that episode to avatar form, I called on Holly's friend Buster Possum, a little guy who was always around, but until his first avatar appearance in May never had a name or true identity. The possum family may stay indoors more and out of Holly's backyard now that they have this killer big screen TV.

#273. "The Hug"

Debuted: 7/7/11

Sliver posted a real life lesson she experienced on the value of hugging those you care about, and ES just couldn't resist the thought of driving the point home in visual form. I must have worked on this avatar for close to an hour redoing things I didn't like the look of in it, and it still didn't turn out quite as well as I'd have liked, but it's still pretty darn good and sweet to boot. This avatar was used just a week later in a "hugs" image montage in a thread on a site dedicated to bearded dragon lizards.

#274. "Brain Freeze!"

Debuted: 7/11/11

In honor of 7-Eleven's annual "Free Slurpee Day" on July 11th, I put together this avatar of ES and MBRS enjoying the icy beverage, with ES gulping his down a bit too fast and paying the price. I love how ES is writhing in pain in this one while MBRS seems to think he's a total douchebag.

#275. "The Birth of MBRS"

Debuted: 7/15/11

Fanny made an offhand comment in chat the night before that both the woman front and center in the painting "The Birth of Venus" and MBRS have red hair. Not sure why the observation was made, but it made me want to whip up a little tribute to this, and try MBRS as the lady in the seashell. What makes this one great to me is the fact that the image compression actually makes it appear somewhat like a painting. That compression was due to a problem I had with fitting MBRS in the 200X200 space, and instead of just doing it over and making her smaller, I enlarged the image by 10 pixels square, then shrunk it back down to the 200X200 avatar size... which gave it its somewhat blurry look.
