Elizabeth: z y m u r g i s t - zymurgist.

Chris: 15 seconds.

Elizabeth: Steel, glass, explosives, beer. 10 seconds.

Donny: Uh, I don't--what's made by a blind merchant?

Elizabeth: Zymurgist! z y m u r g i s t.

50/50 leaves A & D.

Chris and Elizabeth walk away with $16,000 and a party bus.

When I saw the word "zymurgist", I focused on the first three letters. They reminded me of the word "enzyme", so the only possible answer was beer.

PAF Donny was definitely not a smart man. Elizabeth spelled the word twice and Donny kept saying "merchant"!

I guess Donny misheard "zymurgist" for "blind merchant" - it's the only explanation. As for me, I'd be PAFing this one.

Agreed. I had to replay the tape and listen carefully to realize that Donny had said "merchant" after the first reading of the question. And since Elizabeth didn't catch that and didn't specifically correct him by saying "NOT merchant," he didn't let that thought go.

<sigh>

Would it be insensitive to refer to botched PAF communications as Blind Merchants, from now on?

An easy google so poor PAF preparation costs them at least 9K and maybe more.

Wouldn't have burned the 50/50 and they would gain the STQ so perhaps they could have won 50K or more.

Costly indeed.
