What a truly nasty question. This was WAY undervalued, IMO. Astaire did, of course, dance to "Puttin' On the Ritz," but it was a solo number in "Blue Skies" (I had to look it up), not a dance with Rogers. And "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" was in a really obscure movie called "Roberta" (it's a Jerome Kern operetta -- again, I had to look that one up, too).

It's too bad...she was doing so well, too....

Puttin' on the Ritz is such a top hat and tap shoe song that even I, who knows nothing about films, would have answered that. Fred and Ginger would not have done a tap dance together.

Too bad she didn't either know the tune or make the connection.

I liked her. Too bad.

OK, time for the first lifeline. ATA and hope.

Second lifeline gone - PAF because I have no idea, so 50/50 won't help.

Surprisingly I know this one because C is a tap-dance routine and Fred and Ginger didn't do such numbers together.

No, but when I saw your reply I laughed. You know what they say about great minds...

Plus whenever I hear the song I think of Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein and somehow I couldn't envision Ginger and Fred doing that number.

And your hunch is quite correct. Rochester has its own TV stations and doesn't have to watch the ones in NYC. 8)

Thanks for the detailed explanation, KT. As usual, when the question writers are told that they have to write an entire week with just one category of questions, they end up undervaluing them way too much.

As if all the young and trendy contestants they favor are fans of Fred and Ginger...

Here's a news brief about Tiffany.

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/app ... /1002/NEWS

It also has a promo for another contestant:
Another Rochester-area resident — James Rogers, a restaurant server from Greece — is scheduled to appear Feb. 29 on the game show, which airs daily at 12:30 p.m. on WHEC-TV (Channel 10).
The Greece they're referring to is a suburb of Rochester, not the country.

Looks like the Netflix Movie Thousandaire week is off to a solid start.

I didn't know a single one from 2K on with any degree of confidence and I expect that this will continue for me for most of the week. I suspect that the cast will fare only slightly better. Making it to 25K would seem likely to be even less common than usual...

Only goes to show what you know and what you don't know -- :D

For me, the Fred & Ginger question was easier than the $2K and $4K -- although if I sat there long enough, I would have remembered the $4K question.
